EN.
General: The McIntosh MCD85 is a versatile CD/SACD player from McIntosh.
Technology: The McIntosh MCD85 features a newly designed digital circuit with a highly sophisticated 8-channel Quad Balanced D/A Converter. This means that 4 DAC channels are assigned to both the left and right audio channels. The new CD tray is made of cast aluminum and moves very smoothly and stably. CDs are read extremely quickly and the McIntosh MCD85 reads CDs 2 times faster than normal, which ensures better error correction processing and disc tracking. Besides CDs and SACDs, the McIntosh MCD85 can also play files via USB from, for example, a computer or streamer. The McIntosh MCD85 accepts virtually all file formats including AAC, AIFF, ALAC, FLAC, MP3, WAV (up to 24bit/192kHz) and even DSD files (up to DSD256). The McIntosh MCD85 also offers 2 digital inputs (SPDIF Coax and Toslink/Optical) so you can also connect an external source such as a streamer or TV. The MCD85 features both balanced and unbalanced outputs. On the front you'll find a rotary knob to select the input, an identical knob to turn the MCD85 on and off, and the usual Play/Pause, Stop, and Open/Close buttons.
Appearance: You can almost always recognize a McIntosh device from a kilometer away, and the McIntosh MCD85 is no exception. The MCD85 features the characteristic black glass panel on the front with the McIntosh logo illuminated in green. Below you'll find an LED display that shows the track number and progress. The intensity of the LED screen can easily be dimmed or made brighter. And right at the front you'll find 2 large shiny buttons for setup and changing the input. The McIntosh MCD85 is very solid, yet reasonably compact in construction and is truly a pleasure to look at.
Sound: The McIntosh MCD85 has the typical McIntosh character. This means that the MCD85 sounds beautifully full, detailed and rich. The difference with older McIntosh equipment lies more in the detail and tangibility of the soundstage. The MCD85 also sounds more precise and airier than the older McIntosh CD players, which sound somewhat darker than the newer generation McIntosh CD players. The McIntosh MCD85 will never give too much or too little of anything. The sound is very controlled and balanced. Even at higher volumes with heavier music, the McIntosh MCD85 maintains its grip and the sound remains comfortable, so you don't have to rush to the volume control to turn it down. This ensures that after hours, days, weeks, months, or years, you can still enjoy the McIntosh MCD85. The overall picture is just right and doesn't give the feeling that you're really listening to a digital signal. The music is reproduced with full emotion, which creates more emotion and involvement with the music. Although the McIntosh MCD85 sounds refined, it doesn't sound boring or too tame. Due to this very refined character, the McIntosh MCD85 is suitable for virtually any type of music at virtually any volume on virtually any type of speaker. It's also worth mentioning the excellent service that McIntosh offers on its equipment. You don't have to worry about the future, as parts are in plentiful stock and can be repaired in the future, and McIntosh never leaves its customers in the lurch, as it should be.
