Analysis Audio makes planar ribbon loudspeakers, the best in the world. When we first heard the small Omicrons in Munich, years ago, we were deeply impressed. We are of course familiar with loudspeakers from Magnepan, Quad, Martin Logan, Final and many others, but we had never heard such beautiful and natural sound reproduction. We even went back to the room where they were playing a couple of times. They sounded so beautiful.
What makes Analysis Audio loudspeakers so special?
Omega
All Analysis Audio loudspeakers are 2-way loudspeakers with a very low crossover frequency and that is absolutely unique in the world.
Ribbon Bass Panel
Fans of the old Apogee loudspeakers will recognize some techniques from Analysis Audio loudspeakers. The most distinctive feature is the fact that the bass panel is asymmetrical. These panels taper, which means the characteristic resonances of rectangular membrane loudspeakers have been completely eliminated. However, the old Apogee loudspeakers were made entirely by hand, and the foil was also manually applied, and Apogee's reliability was not very high, but the sound was excellent. The construction of Analysis Audio loudspeakers differs greatly from Apogee and has proven to be very reliable. Every Analysis Audio loudspeaker is however built very solidly and reliability is extremely high. In the last 15 years there have been no significant issues with Analysis Audio loudspeakers.
Another unique feature of Analysis Audio compared to all other planar and electrostatic loudspeakers is the fact that the Bass Panel is suspended all around in moving and damping rubbers. The carefully suspended foil thus does not hang super-stiff in the frame, but rather hangs as if suspended from a rubber damper. The result of this is that the panel can make enormous excursions, while the foil is barely stressed. The bass reproduction is also extremely deep and airy. Very special to hear.
Almost every audiophile knows the fantastic qualities of the ribbon tweeter, which is installed in some dynamic loudspeakers. However, the mid/high ribbon unit of Analysis Audio is of a completely different order. The pure ribbon is already more than 90cm long in the Omicron, and in the Amphitryon even more than 200cm long. Unique. The ribbon is a few cm wide so that it can also reproduce the low midtones.
The advantage of a Ribbon Bass Panel and Ribbon tweeter is the extremely low moving mass of these units. You thus hear an unprecedented fast response, without overhang or ringing and the sound image is completely free from resonances.

Filter
A crossover filter is necessary (a necessary evil...) in every multi-way loudspeaker. A 2-way loudspeaker contains only 2 filters, a 3-way loudspeaker already has 4, a 4-way loudspeaker already has 6. The fewer filters, the better, and it is also important in which frequency range the switching occurs and how steep. A 6dB per octave filter is sonically the best, but requires the most from the units used. A 6dB filter consists in principle of only 2 components plus possibly some resistors for level adjustment. The phase shift in this case is minimal. A 12, 18 or 24 dB per octave filter used in many other speakers is already a circuit board full of components, several tens at least, and significant phase shifts occur, precisely because of the large number of components in series. Less is clearly better in this case. A 6dB filter has the best impulse behavior and phase behavior, so the reproduction remains as pure as possible. The woofer/midrange membrane of an Analysis Audio loudspeaker extends to approximately 800Hz and the very wide pure ribbon unit does the rest. So there is no switching in the frequency range of 1,500-5,000Hz, which is very sensitive to the human ear. Even the largest Amphitryon is simply a 2-way loudspeaker.

Components
The Analysis Audio loudspeakers are made in Greece. Only the best components are used and come from everywhere. For example, the super-strong magnets come from South America, the membrane foil for the bass units comes from England, the membrane foil for the ribbon tweeters comes from France, the filter components come from Germany and the very important adhesives come from the USA.

We can be brief about the cabinet: there isn't one. Both ribbon units are mounted in a CNC-milled open HDF panel, which is milled to the nearest thousandth of a millimeter. Super precise and very striking to look at. The Analysis Audio loudspeakers are therefore dipoles, which means the loudspeakers radiate forward and backward. This has some advantages but also 1 important disadvantage for some households. Analysis Audio loudspeakers and other dipoles must be at least 50 cm away from the wall, and for the larger models we typically use approximately 100 cm. There are also advantages. Because the cabinet is open at the back, there is no cabinet resonance, no bass ports, no passive radiators...nothing. Hence the so pure and resonance-free reproduction. Another advantage of a dipole loudspeaker is that you can direct the bass response in the room. A normal loudspeaker radiates bass all around, but a dipole provides an 8-lobed bass radiation pattern. And you can play with that to adjust the strength of the bass response. An Analysis Audio loudspeaker is easy to place and move. They can therefore easily stand against the wall, and if you want to listen to music seriously, you simply pull them towards the listening position.
Amphitryon
Each model of Analysis Audio has the same sound quality, only the larger models can handle larger spaces and produce more pressure. The first thing that stands out is the uncolored and natural nature of the sound image. Analysis Audio loudspeakers are the first planar loudspeakers we know that also have a meaty and very beautiful 3D reproduction. Here not the somewhat broad and flat, shallow sound of some competitors. The midrange is very open, pure, musical and very 3D. The high frequency reproduction is of an unprecedented quality and we can safely say that the reproduction is better than the vast majority of units made from ceramic, aluminum, titanium, beryllium, diamond or anything else. The bass reproduction is also spectacular. Really spectacular. The bass reproduction of a dipole loudspeaker is anyway very different from the bass reproduction of a dynamic loudspeaker with a closed or open cabinet. You don't get that typical punch in your stomach or booming solid bass response, but rather a pure and deep and completely uncolored bass. We know organ lovers who are not impressed by huge loudspeakers or subwoofers, but are impressed by the reproduction via the Analysis Audio Amphitryon. Special because at first glance the deep bass reproduction doesn't stand out, just as in reality. We invite you to come and listen to one of the models at our place.
