Nime Audio Design started in 2010 with building speakers. The company is the brainchild of Nico Memoli and is located in Massarosa in Italy, close to Pisa and Lucca. Of course, there are already many speaker manufacturers in the world, and Nico was simply not satisfied with what he saw and heard. Most speakers are not pleasant to look at, Nico thought, and indeed, if we look around carefully, the vast majority are still just a rectangular box. Furthermore, Nico found that some speakers can sound excellent, but there is still "stress" audible from the speaker. Stress because the drivers are in enclosures that are too small and often not built deep enough, or because the enclosure itself causes unpleasant secondary sounds. Even enclosures made of stone or aluminum can still add very unpleasant resonance to the sound. In fact, a very stiff enclosure does not have a broadly measured low resonance level, but rather a sharp peak at a specific frequency. These are often high frequencies and therefore clearly audible. And that is not what you want from a high-quality sound system.
Nico's goal is to build very high-quality and beautifully designed speakers which sound stress-free and excellent, and look very good in most living rooms or listening spaces. The first thing that stands out is the depth of the speakers. They are quite deep, with the aim of giving the woofers room to breathe, and thereby function stress-free, and be able to go very deep in the bass. To keep the depth not too large, the cabinets taper upward, and this also gives Nime Audio Design speakers their unique look. Some talk about an Alien, or refer to Darth Vader from Star Wars, but we prefer to talk about Nime Audio Design's unique design. We think the speakers look magnificent in any case.
Nime Audio Design speakers are very carefully designed, with the enclosure, drivers and crossover working together for optimal sound experience. We are talking about optimal cooperation between Cabinet, Drivers and Crossovers.
All Nime Audio Design enclosures are made of stainless steel, aluminum, solid wood and HDF. The entry-level model, the Mya, is made of stainless steel and HDF. The drivers are set in a polished stainless steel plate. The base is made of HDF, solid wood and stainless steel. The feet are also made of polished stainless steel. Beautifully built and finished. The top model, the Elite One S, is even completely hand-built from stainless steel, which is unique in speaker design.
All drivers come from the renowned German manufacturer Accuton. Accuton makes the best units in the world, and these are all made of ceramic or even pure diamond. The drivers are nowadays excellently damped, and the unpleasant resonance peaks of the first ceramic units are no longer present. The woofers and midrange units are also now equipped with a foam layer. The cone is now a sandwich construction, which also helps spread and suppress resonances.
In Nime Audio Design speakers, the filters are built into the integrated stands. This has major advantages over mounting a crossover in the speaker itself. Crossover components are namely sensitive to vibrations. Capacitors in the crossover suffer most from vibrations. The value of a capacitor changes due to vibrations. But resistors and coils also change value due to vibrations. It is clear that this is undesirable, since it negatively affects sound quality. The crossovers themselves are built from the best possible components. OFC flat wire coils, Mundorf Elco's and resistors. Nime Audio Design speakers contain 12dB per octave filters, a fairly gentle slope. This optimizes the phase response.
