EN.

General: The Borresen C3 is the largest model in the C-series speakers from Audio Group Denmark. The C-series follows the Z-series from Borresen Acoustics. The Borresen C3 is improved in many ways compared to its predecessor and features the most modern technology of today. The Borresen C3 is a 2.5-way floor-standing speaker. With a Borresen C3 set, you receive 8 pieces of Ansuz Darkz S2T decouplers worth € 5.120,- included. What is new about the Borresen C3 is the Bi-Wire connection. Now you can use Bi-Amping for even better control and more command over the sound. For those who want to play with just a single amplifier, don't worry, because a very good set of Bi-Wire jumpers from sister brand Ansuz Acoustics is included, namely the Ansuz Jumperz X3 worth € 500,-.

Enclosure: The enclosure of the Borresen C3 is larger than that of the Z2 and Z3, combined with the new Borresen DCC5 Neo drivers this provides a tighter and less resonant bass reproduction. The enclosure is made of an internally reinforced wood composite, this composite material is engineered to minimize distortion, standing waves, and external resonances. This enclosure is further reinforced with a 1mm thick carbon panel on both sides. This carbon is not just for the beautiful looks, it also contributes to the overall rigidity of the enclosure and better resonance response. There are bass reflex ports on the rear as well as a port for venting the ribbon tweeter. Some distance from the rear wall is desirable, although the Borresen C3 can be placed much closer to the wall than you might expect. For optimal sound quality, in our view a minimum distance of 50cm from the rear wall is recommended. The striking large base with the mounting structure of the enclosure was designed by Flemming Rasmussen (former Gryphon) and gives the Borresen C3 a truly authentic look, but it also ensures that the C3 cabinet is not directly attached to the base plate; it rests, so to speak, on the angled piece of natural wood composite which is attached to the base plate. This reduces resonances that would enter the enclosure with the drivers.

Drivers: The diaphragm of the midrange driver and bass woofers has also been improved. It now consists of 2 layers of spread tow carbon with a layer of aramide (better known as kevlar) in honeycomb design in between. This diaphragm is reinforced with a small amount of epoxy in the carbon. The voice coil of this driver is made of titanium instead of aluminum for less resistance in the magnet system. Copper pole rings are also used in the magnet system for reduced inductance. The combination of materials and techniques results in an extremely stable driver with enormous power and control, the diaphragm is extremely light and rigid which provides fast acceleration and minimal distortion. And it is driven by a powerful neodymium magnet system. These drivers are manufactured in-house by Audio Group Denmark and are engineered for virtually everything. The tweeter is also manufactured in-house; it is a ribbon tweeter with a moving mass of 0.01(!) grams. This tweeter is extremely stable and linear in its output and distorts almost not at all. The filter in the Borresen C3 has also been improved compared to the filter in the Z2 and Z3 (Cryo). The Borresen C3 has a completely different driver setup than the smaller C2; where the C2 has a single midrange driver below the tweeter, the C3 has two midrange drivers in a D'Appolito configuration above and below the tweeter, this provides a much larger soundstage and more pronounced midrange compared to its smaller sibling. Lower in the cabinet are 2 bass woofers per speaker.

Listening: The Borresen C3 delivers excellent performance in its price range. The sound is what we're used to from Borresen: neutral, spacious, clean, detailed and free from listening fatigue. When we compare the C3 to the Z2 and Z3 (Cryo), you clearly and immediately hear improvements across the board. The Borresen C3 has more precision, better intelligibility and more liveliness. The music dances much more freely around the room with much greater ease and finesse. The bass reproduction is noticeably tighter and more rhythmic than the bass of the Z2 and Z3. But the bass is also less boomy, which makes the Borresen C3 easier to place than even the smaller Z3 (Cryo). In the midrange and treble there is clearly more life and more distinction between background and foreground. You hear more detail and more layers in the recording and the music is looser, more playful and simply more interesting to listen to. Borresen Acoustics has clearly taken steps in the right direction to make the Borresen C3 a worthy successor to the Z3 (Cryo). Furthermore, these Borresen C3s simply look fantastic.

The Borresen C3 is available in high-gloss black or high-gloss white finish. For an additional charge, they can also be painted in virtually any RAL color.
