General: Reference speaker from Sonus Faber, entirely handcrafted in Italy. The Sonus Faber il Cremonese is a tribute to the finest creation of the renowned violin maker Antonio Stradivari, the 'Cremonese' created in 1715, celebrating its 300th anniversary in 2015, the year the il Cremonese was launched. The Sonus Faber il Cremonese Ex3me is a special edition of the il Cremonese. Finished in Sonus Faber's classic 'Red Violin' finish, a beautiful and distinctive color also found in older Sonus Faber models such as the Sonus Faber Stradivari. The Ex3me version of the il Cremonese also employs modern techniques and materials such as a Diamond/Beryllium tweeter, Nano-Carbon Nomex Honeycomb long-throw bass woofers, and a redesigned crossover. Only 50 pairs of the il Cremonese Ex3me were initially planned, but due to its great success, the project has been continued and more units have been produced. Technical Details: The Sonus Faber il Cremonese Ex3me is beautifully finished, with its solid wooden sides that are lacquered and polished, its string fronts and leather trim on the front and back make the Sonus Faber il Cremonese Ex3me a true work of art. But beyond the outstanding design we all expect from Sonus Faber, the il Cremonese Ex3me is also technically gifted. The Sonus Faber il Cremonese Ex3me is made of natural materials, according to Sonus Faber's philosophy, speakers should be made of the same materials as musical instruments. Sonus Faber has also been using the lute shape for years, which has proven itself at a high level for many years; the Sonus Faber il Cremonese Ex3me also has a lute shape that not only makes it look brilliant, but also makes it acoustically very pleasant. The bottom plate is CNC-milled aluminum, and the top plate is also made of the same aluminum, but with a black glass plate integrated into it. These plates provide a more rigid cabinet structure and improved damping of resonances and the like. The units consist of a 30mm DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) Beryllium Dome Tweeter that operates from 2500Hz with Neodymium drive, housed in its own wooden enclosure. Diamond Like Carbon Beryllium means that the tweeter is made of Beryllium, a material with extremely good properties in terms of transparency and precision. Subsequently, through 'Chemical Vapour Deposition' technology, a diamond-like carbon fiber coating is applied to the Beryllium tweeter, which reduces the metallic sound of pure Beryllium and provides a friendlier character without reducing the tweeter's speed and precision. Below the tweeter you will find a 180mm midrange driver that provides 'The Voice of Sonus Faber', the crossover region is between 250Hz and 2500Hz and the cone itself is made of an air-dried mixture of natural fibers. The midrange driver is also driven by a Neodymium magnet, and the midrange driver is also housed in its own compartment in the Sonus Faber il Cremonese Ex3me cabinet. Thanks to a strategically placed copper Faraday ring, the midrange drive is not affected by 'Eddy Current', which reduces noise floor and provides cleaner and quieter reproduction. Below the midrange driver you will find two 180mm bass drivers for the mid-bass/bass region, these 180mm bass drivers are supported by an UltraFlex port on the bottom of the speaker. The 180mm drivers are not filtered by a crossover; instead, they filter themselves. This allows the front bass drivers to play perfectly in sync with both the midrange driver and the 2 bass woofers on the side of the speaker. For the sub-bass, each speaker has two 220mm woofers integrated on the side of the cabinet, which are also housed in their own enclosure and are also supported by a bass reflex port on the bottom of the speaker. These woofers are made of nano-carbon fiber, consisting of 3 layers. Due to the sandwich/Honeycomb design of the cone, these long-throw woofers can have enormous excursion without distortion. This provides an extremely impressive bass reproduction. The Sonus Faber il Cremonese Ex3me is thus an open system and requires adequate breathing space on the side and back of the speaker, but less than you would expect from a speaker of this size. Since the woofers face to the side and are only on one side of the cabinet, you also have the choice to have them face outward or inward, which affects the tightness and placement of the bass. The efficiency is 92dB at 1 Watt, which is not unfavorable. Nevertheless, Sonus Faber itself recommends using at least a 100 Watt amplifier since the il Cremonese Ex3me requires some control if you want to play at higher volumes.
