General: Borresen Acoustics produces multiple loudspeaker series, including the excellent affordable X-series, above that the high-quality C-series, and above that the high-end T-series. But the M-series is the flagship reference loudspeaker series from Borresen Acoustics. The M-series loudspeakers rank among the very best on the loudspeaker market.

Technology: The Borresen M3 is technically one of the most exotic loudspeakers on the market. The applied techniques and materials are unlike any other loudspeaker manufacturer. Most major loudspeaker manufacturers purchase loudspeaker units, but Borresen manufactures their own drivers. The enclosure is made from a natural composite material and internally reinforced. The in-house manufactured Borresen RP94 ribbon tweeter sits in its own compartment in the cabinet, vented via a tube leading to the back, allowing the tweeter to see open space both front and rear, resulting in more linear reproduction compared to a tweeter in a sealed compartment. Above and below the tweeter sits a midrange driver, in D'Appolito configuration. Like the tweeter, the midrange drivers have their own compartment in the upper half of the enclosure, vented through a semi-damped port in the form of a long slot. Behind this slot are mounted brackets for air dispersion. The midrange drivers in the Borresen M3 are not filtered downward, so they participate in bass reproduction for smooth transition between bass and midrange, which is why the Borresen M3 is a 2.5-way system rather than a 3-way system. The 2 bass woofers sit at the bottom in the largest compartment, also vented by a large and wide port with dispersion brackets. This port is not damped with airy foam like the midrange compartment ports.

The 4 drivers used in the M3 are Borresen IronFree 5 Zirconium SSE mid/bass drivers, a driver unique in the world. First, there is the basket, an asymmetrical 3D-printed basket made of solid zirconium. This basket ensures optimal stability and airflow for the mid/bass driver. Manufacturing just one such basket costs thousands of dollars in production costs. The magnets used are the most powerful neodymium magnets on the market, with no iron in the magnet system. Additionally, an in-house fabricated pure silver pole piece is used in the magnet system for the lowest possible inductance. The membrane of the drivers in the Borresen M3 is made from 2 layers of spread-tow carbon with a layer of aramide (better known as Kevlar) in honeycomb design between them. These 3 layers are pressed rigidly together and secured with a small amount of epoxy. But the M-series have an extra layer on the cone, namely a thin titanium layer with a very fine and special coating, specifically a coating layer that Audio Group Denmark calls 'Supreme Coating'. This Supreme Coating is made from a base layer of zirconium, with a tungsten layer on top and an aluminum chromium nitride layer on top of that. This coating layer is applied to the titanium using a Hi-PIMS (High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering) machine. All this effort and exotic materials are not for nothing; the result is one of the most unique, stable, distortion-free, and musical drivers on the market. The Borresen RP94 ribbon tweeter is also unique and found only in Borresen Acoustics loudspeakers. This tweeter is also manufactured in-house. The membrane of this tweeter weighs only a minuscule 0.01 grams, yet it is a strong material that can withstand a minor impact. Because the moving mass of this tweeter is so low, no energy can be stored in it, resulting in completely distortion-free reproduction.

The internal wiring is entirely Ansuz Acoustics D-TC3 Gold Signature wiring. This wiring consists of a copper core that is subsequently silver-plated and even gold-plated, providing a unique, clean, and highly musical sound. The loudspeaker terminals accept only banana plugs. Below the loudspeaker terminals, there is also a 14 Volt BNC input. This input powers the active noise cancelling Tesla Coil technology from sister brand Ansuz Acoustics used in the Borresen M3. Two adapters are supplied with a set of M3, but you can also choose to power this 14 Volt connection from an Ansuz Acoustics PowerBox model for best results.

Decoupling: The base plate is a stylish sandwich construction of 2 layers of solid titanium with a layer of compact laminate between them. On top sits an angled piece of composite material on which the enclosure rests. This base, consisting of multiple layers, ensures optimal resonance behavior of the entire enclosure for less stress in the sound. For additional resonance control, 8 pieces of Ansuz Darkz Z3W decouplers are supplied with a set of Borresen M3. The Darkz Z3W are decouplers with discs of solid zirconium that have been surface-treated with a very fine layer of zirconium and hafnium, which like the coating layer on the Borresen M3 driver membranes are applied by a Hi-PIMS machine. Between these zirconium discs are tungsten balls that provide the decoupling. These Ansuz Darkz Z3W with a retail value of € 28.800,- for 8 pieces should be placed under the feet of the base plate.

In all, the Borresen M3 is one of the most exclusive loudspeakers on the world market.

Listening: Listening to a Borresen loudspeaker system is always a pleasure. You consistently hear solid and deep bass reproduction and extremely low distortion. The sound also comes completely away from the speakers. You can position the Borresen loudspeakers very wide apart, which often produces excellent results. The midrange is still completely filled. The Borresen M3 takes it a step further; what you hear here is practically pure magic. Everything plays with such ease, and sounds so honest, free, and transparent that you barely notice you're listening to loudspeakers. The Borresen M3 sets new standards in loudspeaker design and sound, it is an exceptionally special-sounding system. The Borresen M3 can be placed in many rooms, even average-sized rooms, thanks to the clever design of the enclosure and drivers. But even in a listening room of 100 m² the M3 can fill the entire space. The Borresen M3 sounds grand, honest, and tight. Voices and instruments sound genuinely live. Due to its larger enclosure and dual midrange driver, the Borresen M3 sounds somewhat grander and fuller than the fresher and more direct-sounding Borresen M2, the smaller sibling of the M3. The larger sibling of the M3, the Borresen M6, goes even further in terms of large and spatial 3D soundstage and deeper and more complete bass reproduction. For its size, there is nothing but respect for how complete, large, and powerful the total musical reproduction of the Borresen M3 is compared to other reference loudspeakers that are often much larger. Sublime.
