General : The Sonus Faber Sonetto series has been completely renewed and evolved into the Sonetto G2 series. The Sonetto VIII G2 is the largest model in the Sonetto G2 series, with smaller floorstanding siblings below it: the Sonetto V G2 and Sonetto III G2, and standmount speakers, the Sonetto I G2 and Sonetto II G2. The Sonetto G2 series has been improved on many fronts compared to the first Sonetto series, both in terms of sound quality and aesthetics.

Technology : A major change compared to its predecessor is the cabinet of the Sonus Faber Sonetto VIII G2. The cabinet is significantly reinforced and now rests on a thick concrete plate for resonance control. The inside of the cabinet is equipped with cork, something you also find in the € 750.000,- Sonus Faber Suprema System and for example in the new Concertino G4. The midrange driver is based on the latest Camelia midrange driver from Sonus Faber, which you also encounter in the Suprema speaker system. The baskets of the drivers have been newly designed and are much more rigid and resonance-free compared to the baskets in the first Sonetto series. The wood veneers are of higher quality and the design is much more refined. The finish is clearly of a higher level than the excellent first-generation Sonetto speakers; the Sonetto VIII G2 weighs no less than 19kg more than its predecessor. In terms of sound, the Sonus Faber Sonetto VIII G2 also goes further than its predecessor.

Listening : The Sonus Faber Sonetto VIII G2 speakers have actually been improved on every point compared to their predecessor. The bass goes deeper and has more body and punch. The bass is also better positioned, especially on carpeted floors. This is because the concrete base is now located under the downward-firing bass reflex port, which prevents the bass energy from being absorbed by the floor and better preserves the bass energy. The midrange and treble have clearly improved and move more toward the sound of the more expensive Olympica Nova series from Sonus Faber. You hear much more detail and the soundstage is larger, but the midrange is also fuller and more pleasant. Overall, Sonus Faber has made significant progress with the Sonetto VIII G2, and in fact the entire Sonetto G2 series of speakers compared to an already excellent series of speakers. The price has increased somewhat, but the G2 series are well worth this additional cost, both in terms of build quality, aesthetics, and musicality.
