General: The Sonus Faber Sonetto range has been completely renewed and transformed into the Sonetto G2 series. The Sonetto V G2 is the mid-range floor-standing speaker from the Sonetto G2 series, below which sits its smaller floor-standing brother, the Sonetto III G2, and the standmount speakers, the Sonetto I G2 and Sonetto II G2. Above the Sonetto V G2 sits its larger brother and also the largest model in the Sonetto G2 series, the Sonetto VIII G2. The Sonetto G2 series has been improved on many fronts compared to the first Sonetto series, both in terms of sound quality and aesthetics.

Technology: A major change compared to its predecessor is the cabinet of the Sonus Faber Sonetto V G2. The cabinet has been significantly reinforced and the enclosure is now firmly mounted on a thick concrete plate for resonance control. The inside of the enclosure is equipped with cork, something you also find in the € 750.000,- Sonus Faber Suprema System and for example also in the new Concertino G4. The midrange driver is based on the latest Camelia midrange driver from Sonus Faber, which you also find in the Suprema speaker system. The driver baskets have been newly designed and are much more robust and resonance-free compared to the baskets in the first Sonetto series. The wood veneers are of higher quality and the design is much sleeker. The finishing is clearly of a higher level than the excellent first generation Sonetto speakers, the Sonetto V G2 weighs more than 10kg more than its predecessor. The Sonus Faber Sonetto V G2 also sounds better than its predecessor.

Listening: The Sonus Faber Sonetto V G2 is improved on virtually every point compared to its predecessor. The bass goes deeper and has more body and punch. The bass is also better positioned, particularly on carpeted floors. This is because the concrete base is now under the downward-firing bass reflex port, which means the bass energy is not absorbed by the floor and the bass energy is better preserved. The midrange and treble have clearly improved and move more towards the sound of the more expensive Olympica Nova series from Sonus Faber. You hear much more detail and the soundstage is larger, but the midrange is also fuller and more pleasant. All in all, Sonus Faber has made significant progress with the Sonetto V G2, and indeed the rest of the Sonetto G2 series speakers compared to an already excellent series of speakers. The price has gone up somewhat, but the G2 series are definitely worth this extra cost, both in terms of build quality, aesthetics and musicality.
