General: The Axxess L1 is a high-end 2-way standmount loudspeaker from Audio Group Denmark, created and designed with the same vision as the Børresen loudspeakers. The new Axxess products are made as an introduction to the Audio Group Denmark sound at a more affordable price. The cables, amplifiers, and loudspeakers are all simplified versions of Ansuz Acoustics cables, Aavik Acoustics amplifiers, and Børresen Acoustics loudspeakers.

Technology: The Axxess L1 is an affordable entry-level loudspeaker to Audio Group Denmark sound, yet it is designed with the same attention to quality as the more expensive Audio Group Denmark products—which applies to all products under the Axxess name. What is completely new about the Axxess loudspeakers compared to Børresen Acoustics loudspeakers is the tweeter. The Axxess tweeter is a ribbon tweeter with a Kapton membrane. This tweeter is not as light as the 0.01-gram Børresen tweeter, but it is still 25 times lighter than the average dome tweeter and has twice the surface area. These ribbon tweeters excel in definition, airiness, and stable reproduction at both high and low volumes. The Axxess L1 uses the same midrange/woofer found in the Børresen X-series. This driver consists of 3 different layers pressed together very tightly. The 3 layers consist of 2 layers of spread-tow carbon, with a layer of aramide in honeycomb design in the middle for reinforcement. By using these materials and pressing them together firmly, the driver in the Axxess L1 is extremely light and extremely stiff, and therefore free of resonances. Combined with the powerful neodymium magnet drive with pure copper caps around the pole rings for lower self-inductance, this provides very fast acceleration of the moving units, which results in more realistic and refined reproduction. The materials used provide extremely low self-inductance, which means there is little distortion or resonance. The Axxess L1 can also play quite powerfully for its size thanks to the stability of the tweeter and midrange/woofer used. The cabinet design also contributes to this; the enclosure is made of sturdy natural composite material with excellent acoustic properties. Internally, the cabinet is reinforced and consists of 2 compartments. The tweeter has its own compartment in the cabinet, which is vented by a narrow port at the back, creating a dipole effect and preventing the tweeter from being affected by resonances from the woofer. The midrange/woofer is vented by a double port on the rear.

Stands: The stands for the Axxess L1 are specially made to fit the Axxess L1 loudspeakers. These stands are also made from solid natural composite and consist of 3 parts. A top plate where the Axxess L1 can be screwed down using 3 supplied screws. A heavy and solid pillar of solid natural composite material, reinforced by 2 massive aluminum cylinders to which the top and bottom plates are also screwed. And a stylish base plate with flat feet, no spikes. The feet under the base plate are designed to stand on Axxess Noir or Ansuz Darkz decouplers, which significantly improves sound quality. Of course, the Axxess L1 sounds excellent without them. But we always recommend placing Axxess or Ansuz decouplers underneath to get the most from the loudspeakers. The result with Axxess Noir or Ansuz Darkz decouplers under the loudspeakers is that bass reproduction becomes tighter and resonates less. Vocals and instruments sound fuller, the soundstage becomes clearer and better organized, and there is more peace. In short, musicality improves considerably.

Listening: The Axxess L1 is a very special loudspeaker with fantastic sound. In our view, one of the best options in its price range. Also remarkable is the power that comes from the relatively compact enclosure; even in the bass, the reproduction is tight and controlled. With its extremely light and stable midrange/woofer and tweeter, the sound is very detailed and possesses plenty of air and definition. This provides honest reproduction with a truly live feel. Especially with cymbals, hi-hats, shakers like Cabasa's and Maracas, etc., you hear this air and definition excellently. Also with quieter vocal music, the Axxess L1 delivers an intelligible and comfortable listening experience. You can go in many directions with the Axxess L1; electronic music at high volume remains tight, dynamic, and stable sounding, and even with quiet music at low volume, the details remain audible and the soundstage holds up.
