General : The Elegan series is a new addition to the range of the English brand Quad. There are currently two models in the Elegan series, namely the Elegan 1 standmount speaker and the Elegan 2 floorstanding speaker. The Quad Elegan series proves that good sound and beautiful finish don't have to be extremely expensive.

Technology : The design of the Quad Elegan 1 is simple and effective, but it contains more technology than its appearance suggests. The 165mm bass/mid driver has a cone made from Kevlar, a material that has repeatedly proven itself in the audio industry. Due to the low weight and high stiffness of Kevlar, distortion is low and music is reproduced tight and honest but with high musicality compared to, for example, certain metals such as aluminium. The tweeter is a 25mm fabric dome tweeter which, in combination with a waveguide, provides a very refined and balanced high frequency reproduction. The enclosure is made from a high-density MDF type which is internally reinforced by means of braces; these braces ensure low cabinet resonance and good internal air pressure dispersion. The enclosure is an open design and is therefore supported by a Quad Airflow™ bass reflex system, a port specially designed by Quad to create optimal air flow with as little turbulence as possible. Also nice are the easily removable magnetic grilles that provide a more neutral look as well as driver protection.

Listening : The Quad Elegan 1 not only sounds bigger and more mature, but also considerably more expensive than what they actually are. It's remarkable how Quad has managed to deliver such a musical and complete performance with a set of speakers under 1000 euros per set. The Quad Elegan 1 has a neutral-warm character. Not too woolly, but not too bare either; instead, the sound of the Elegan 1 is simply pleasant and comfortable to listen to, without the sound feeling overdone or fabricated. The midrange and treble are rich in detail and the radiation characteristics of the speakers create a soundstage where you can really move around. The bass is exceptionally good for speakers of this size and price class, full, deep and extremely musical. The Quad Elegan 1 is a very complete speaker with a compact format and a sharp price. We haven't heard anything in this price class that comes close to this Quad Elegan 1.

You can work with many amplifiers with the Quad Elegan 1, but if you're looking for a versatile and compact amplifier that sounds great with these speakers, we recommend the Quad 3 integrated amplifier with DAC, or the Quad Artera Solus Play all-in-one streaming amplifier. For those looking for a very affordable and compact all-in-one solution with the Elegan 2, the Quad Vena II Play is the perfect solution.

The Quad Elegan 1 standmount speakers are set up as a demo unit and can be listened to without obligation by appointment.
