General:
2-Way full range magnetostatic ribbon loudspeakers.

Technology: The Analysis Audio Epsilon is the bigger sibling of the Omicron, the smallest loudspeaker from Analysis Audio from Greece. The Epsilon has been completely redesigned and now has a Single Wiring connection and the crossover filter has been changed. The Epsilon, like all other loudspeakers from Analysis Audio, is a 2-way loudspeaker with a very low crossover point for the tweeter. From as low as 650 Hz, the super-fast ribbon midrange/tweeter takes over from the ribbon woofer/midrange unit. So no filtering takes place in the delicate area around 2500 Hertz, which is common with a 2-way loudspeaker. The filter itself is a 6dB filter, with a minimal number of components and minimal phase shifts in the transition range. The impedance of the Epsilon is around 5 ohms and is very flat, so it is an easy load for the amplifier used. The tweeter itself is a true work of art. It is a 105cm long and nearly 4cm wide pure ribbon, held in Kapton. Ribbons are known to sound super-fast, transparent and uncolored, and the ribbon midrange/tweeter of the Epsilon is among the best we have ever heard. With normal dome tweeters, the dome is driven at the edge of the dome, and all forces spread through the diaphragm. With the Epsilon ribbon this is not the case. The diaphragm is driven over its entire surface. That is also the case for the bass/midrange panel. Normal woofers and midrange drivers are driven forcefully in the center, which creates stress in the cones. Not so with Analysis Audio. In fact, both diaphragms of all Analysis Audio loudspeakers are the voice coil itself, so no cones or domes are driven at all. The woofer panel itself is also a ribbon, but the panel here is trapezoidal. That is unusual, and it avoids resonances and standing waves in the foil. What is even more special is that the woofer/midrange ribbon is not stretched tightly in the frame, but is suspended from a kind of rubber edge. The panel can therefore move very freely, and this allows the Epsilon to reproduce exceptionally deep bass. The Epsilon is relatively compact, certainly for a planar loudspeaker, and measures 112cm high, 61cm wide and 6cm deep. The sensitivity is certainly good at 86dB, and the Epsilon already sounds sublime with amplifiers from around 2 x 50 watts. The maximum power handling of the Epsilon is 250 watts, so the Epsilon can also play loud, although we advise against houseparties and disco parties with the Epsilon. The Analysis Audio Epsilon is the smallest loudspeaker from Analysis Audio, but it sounds fantastic.

Listening: The Analysis Audio Epsilon is a very special magnetostatic loudspeaker. The tweeter plays from 650Hz upward, so this is where you hear most of the music. This leaves room for the specially suspended foils for the bass and mid/bass to perform their task perfectly. The bass of the Analysis Epsilon is clearly deeper, fuller and more musical compared to many other planar loudspeakers. You can listen to many kinds of music on the Analysis Epsilon, and even electronic music such as Trentemøller will sound impressive through the Epsilon. The midrange is neutral and clean but also has a lot of weight and a pleasant organic glow. You hear things on this loudspeaker that you have never heard before. Because there are no cabinets, the soundstage is completely free in the room. Annoying bass resonances are not an issue, nothing disturbs. What remains is the perfect and pure musical presentation, and that is very special to hear. The Epsilon can play very loud and delivers a superb bass, and you can really play all kinds of music on it without listening fatigue.

This set of Analysis Audio Epsilon is finished in the standard matte black version and is in excellent condition. The set is supplied in the original transport crates, including those for the feet.
