General : The Platina series is the finest equipment series offered by the British brand Quad. The equipment in the Platina series is larger, heavier, more powerful and even better finished than the already excellent retro 3-series and the modern Artera series from Quad. The Quad Platina series consists of 3 devices : the Quad Platina Integrated integrated amplifier with built-in DAC, the Quad Platina Stream network player with digital and analog outputs and finally the Quad Platina CDT digital CD transport.

Technical : The Quad Platina Integrated is a very robustly built amplifier. The chassis is extremely solidly constructed and internally only high-quality components are used with a very generous linear power supply featuring a large ring core transformer. The Quad Platina Integrated weighs no less than 17.1 kg. In addition to being a powerful amplifier with 2 x 200 Watts at 8 Ohm and even 2 x 300 Watts at 4 Ohm, the Quad Platina Integrated is also a very versatile device. It features an excellent ESS Sabre ES9038PRO DAC with various digital inputs such as Coax RCA, Toslink Optical, USB-C and even HDMI ARC for televisions. On the Coax and Toslink input, PCM signals up to high res 24bit/192kHz can be converted, and on the USB-C input, PCM signals up to 32bit/768kHz as well as DSD formats up to DSD512 can be converted. This allows you to play virtually all digital formats via the DAC in the Platina Integrated. In addition, there is a choice of both balanced and unbalanced analog inputs. The Quad Platina Integrated also features an excellent phono stage, which can be used for both MM and MC cartridges. And finally, there is also an excellent sounding headphone amplifier.

The amplifier is a Dual Mono Class A/B design, meaning a separate circuit for the right and left channels. This amplifier was designed from the ground up over a period of 5 years. Every configuration and every component in the Quad Platina Integrated has been selected not only based on measurements, but also by ear to achieve the best and most musical end result. In particular, the capacitors are special, as they were designed and manufactured in collaboration with German manufacturer Würth Elektronik specifically for the Quad Platina Integrated. Thanks to the Dual Mono design, the signal path between the separate power supply circuits and the transistors, and between the transistors and speaker outputs is very short. This results in low inductance, a low noise floor and very direct access to the amplifier's power for dynamic and clean reproduction.

Display : The display on the Quad Platina Integrated also deserves praise. This is a clearly legible, intuitive and modern-looking display with multiple functions. It shows the volume control, file format and input, but you also have the option to display VU meters in different styles. You have various options with the Quad Platina Integrated, for example you can upsample all file formats to PCM 352.8kHz or 384kHz for a more refined sound if you wish, and settings like this are easy to find in the comprehensive yet clear menu on the beautiful display of the Quad Platina Integrated.

Sound : The Quad Platina Integrated clearly distinguishes itself from the already excellent but more affordable 3-series and Artera series from Quad. Not only in build quality and size, but also sonically this Quad Platina Integrated goes considerably further in terms of soundstaging, detail, ease and dynamics. The presented soundstage is enormous and refined, and the placement of what happens in the soundstage feels natural and realistic. The music is presented in a tangible and engaging manner and the power of the Quad Platina Integrated seems endless when turning up the volume, even with speakers of average to lower efficiency. The bass goes deep and is powerful, well-present but never overwhelming. The sound is simply complete, everything included, without flaws. Nothing too much and nothing too little. Not only the build quality and durability, but also the musicality and fun factor makes the Quad Platina Integrated an ideal, versatile and very musical option with excellent value for money.
