General: The Square 5 from British manufacturer Wilson Benesch is an excellent floor-standing loudspeaker with a high level of musicality.

Technology: The Wilson Benesch Square 5 uses a 4-way configuration, with the lower end of the frequency range provided by an isobaric driver system in the speaker's base. The passive radiator at the back, also called the Assisted Bass Radiator, captures the remaining resonances and translates this into exceptionally tight reproduction. Combined with the clever internal cabinet construction, this also makes it possible to drive the midrange unfiltered, which means the midrange is driven directly from the amplifier without additional components that restrict current flow in the signal path.

Listening: Plenty of impressive features to talk about, but ultimately it's about creating a good listening experience. With the Square 5, this has certainly been achieved. Because the midrange is unfiltered, the midrange sounds incredibly open and pure. Voices come incredibly close to you and there is an enormous live feeling present. The reproduction is very balanced, the overall picture fits perfectly, and all the features bring out the musicality without sounding technical. The bass reproduction is also very special, incredibly tight and rhythmic; this is absolutely not a bombastic loudspeaker, but the bass reproduction is extremely pure and free of resonances.
