General: The Ascendo Coax D6 Active is a compact yet powerful active speaker. It is a coaxial system, meaning the tweeter is positioned in the center of the midrange/woofer. This ensures better timing since the high, mid, and low frequencies all emanate from a single point source. Despite the Ascendo Coax D6 Active being only a 2-way coaxial system without an additional bass woofer, the bass output is impressively powerful and tight without being overwhelming. This is thanks to the amplification in the Ascendo Coax D6 Active, which provides a total of 650 watts per speaker: 150 watts for the tweeter and 500 watts for the midrange/woofer. The 18cm coaxial driver comes from the Scandinavian manufacturer Seas. The midrange/woofer membrane is made of transparent XP material, which has natural sonic properties and performs particularly well in the upper frequency range of this woofer. The tweeter is a 25mm soft dome tweeter with powerful neodymium magnet drive. The cabinet features a bass reflex port on the front and can therefore be positioned closer to the rear wall.

Control: The Ascendo Coax D6 Active features built-in comprehensive room correction equalizer software with various filters, allowing it to perform perfectly in any space. However, this does require some effort to set up correctly, of course. According to Ascendo, operating the Coax D6 Active is very straightforward. In our view, this will certainly be the case once you have it set up, but using the speaker's equalizer for the first time is a matter of carefully reading the manual. The network operates via AVB (Audio Video Stream), and we have personally never worked with this before. So this is for the tech-savvy among you; the complete manual is available with all the settings for operating the Ascendo Coax D6 Active, and Ascendo in Germany can be easily contacted with any questions—they are happy to help. We will demonstrate these speakers simply as active speakers with a preamp in front. All internet-related questions about the Coax D6 Active should be directed to Ascendo.

Listening: Connected to the McIntosh C8 tube preamp, the Ascendo Coax D6 Active sounds excellent right away. We have had Ascendo speakers in-house before, and they have always had a detailed, very natural, and pleasant sound. The Coax D6 Active is certainly no exception to this. The sound has a pleasantly warm character, yet it is lively, transparent, and highly detailed. The bass that comes from these relatively compact 2-way coaxial speakers is also particularly noteworthy. Not only is it powerful, it is also a very musical and enjoyable bass. Never too much and never too little. The Ascendo Coax D6 Active are formidable speakers in their price class and are ideal for the average living room.
