General: The Borresen C2 is the latest floor-standing speaker from Audio Group Denmark, and is the successor to the Z2 and Z3 (Cryo). The Borresen C2 has been improved in many ways compared to its predecessor and features the most modern technology available today. The Borresen C2 is a 2.5-way floor-standing speaker. With a Borresen C2 set you receive 8 pieces of Ansuz Darkz S2T isolation devices worth € 5,120 included. What's new about the Borresen C2 is the Bi-Wire connection. Now you can use Bi-Amping for even better amplifier control and more sound control. For those who want to use just a single amplifier, don't worry, because an excellent set of Bi-Wire jumpers from sister brand Ansuz Acoustics is included, namely the Ansuz Jumperz X3 worth € 500.

Cabinet: The cabinet of the Borresen C2 is larger than that of the Z2 and Z3 (Cryo), which combined with the new Borresen DCC5 Neo drivers results in tighter and less resonant bass reproduction. The cabinet is made of internally reinforced wood composite; this composite material was developed to minimize distortion, standing waves, and external resonances. This cabinet is further reinforced with a 1mm thick carbon fiber panel on both sides. This carbon is not just for good looks; it also contributes to the overall rigidity of the cabinet and better resonance response. There are bass reflex ports on the back as well as a port for venting the ribbon tweeter. Some distance from the rear wall is therefore desirable, although the Borresen C2 can be placed much closer to the wall than you might expect. For optimal sound quality, in our opinion a minimum distance of 50cm from the rear wall is recommended. The magnificent large foot with the cabinet subframe was designed by Flemming Rasmussen (ex Gryphon) and gives the Borresen C2 an authentically striking look, but it also ensures that the C2 cabinet is not directly attached to the base plate; rather it rests on the angled piece of natural wood composite which is attached to the base plate. This provides more controlled reproduction.

Drivers: The membrane of the midrange and woofers has also been improved. It now consists of 2 layers of spread tow carbon with a layer of aramide (better known as Kevlar) in honeycomb design between them. This membrane is reinforced with a small amount of epoxy in the carbon. The voice coil of this driver is made of Titanium instead of aluminum for lower resistance in the magnet system. Copper pole rings are also used in the magnet system for reduced inductance. The combination of materials and techniques results in an extremely stable driver that has enormous power and control; the membrane is extremely light and stiff which provides fast acceleration and minimal distortion. And it is driven by a powerful Neodymium magnet system. These drivers are manufactured in-house by Audio Group Denmark and are engineered for virtually everything. The tweeter is also made in-house; it's a ribbon tweeter with a moving mass of just 0.01 (!) gram. This tweeter is extremely stable and linear in its reproduction and distorts almost not at all. The filter in the Borresen C2 has also been improved compared to the filter in the Z2 and Z3 (Cryo).

Listening: The Borresen C2 delivers excellent performance in its price class. The sound is what we've come to expect from Borresen: neutral, spatial, clean, detailed, and free from listening fatigue. When comparing the C2 to the Z2 and Z3 (Cryo), you hear clear and immediate improvement across the board. The Borresen C2 has more precision, better clarity, and more liveliness. The music moves around the room with much more ease and finesse. The bass reproduction is noticeably tighter and more rhythmic than the bass of the Z2 and Z3. But the bass is also less bombastic, allowing the Borresen C2 to be placed more easily than even the smaller Z2 (Cryo). In the midrange and treble there is clearly more life and more distinction between background and foreground. You hear more detail and more layers in the recording, and the music is looser, more playful, and simply more interesting to listen to. Borresen Acoustics has clearly taken steps in the right direction to make the Borresen C2 a worthy successor to the Z2 and Z3 (Cryo). Additionally, these Borresen C2 speakers simply look fantastic.

The Borresen C2 is available in high-gloss black or high-gloss white. We have the Borresen C2 demo unit in stock as standard and can be auditioned by appointment.
