General : The Sonus Faber Lumina II is the larger sibling of Sonus Faber's smallest speaker, built on the same principle but bigger. It therefore sounds more complete and has deeper bass response.

Technical : The Sonus Faber Lumina II is finished to the high standards of Sonus Faber. Only natural materials are used for the cabinet and drivers. The cabinet itself is small and square, finished on all sides with genuine leather. The front is available in several finishes: high-gloss black, or real wood veneer in dark Wenge or the lighter Walnut finish. Both the tweeter and woofer are made from natural materials. The 6-inch woofer is made of paper composite, and the tweeter is an iconic D.A.D. (Damped Apex Dome) 29mm Kurtmüller silk-dome tweeter, which is also used in the higher Sonetto series of Sonus Faber. Around both the tweeter and woofer is soft material that reduces radiation to the sides, surrounded by a beautiful chrome ring purely for design purposes. The overall appearance is simply stunning. The bass reflex port of the Sonus Faber Lumina II is on the front, making it very easy to position, even when placed close to the rear wall.

Listening : The Sonus Faber Lumina II is a very special small speaker. In terms of size, it is not much larger than the Lumina I, yet the Lumina II sounds noticeably better than the Lumina I. The room is filled with music in a very high-quality manner. The bass is many times better than you would expect from a speaker of this size. The bass extends a bit deeper than the Lumina I, and the overall sound quality is smoother and easier. You can really hear the Sonus Faber character in the Lumina II. This means you get a beautiful and spacious soundstage with naturally sounding voices and instruments with warm undertones. The Sonus Faber Lumina II is also very rhythmic; the sound is fast and open, all details are clearly audible, and the separation of multiple voices or instruments is very distinct. In short, the Sonus Faber Lumina II articulates excellently and allows you to enjoy the entire recording and everything that happens in it. The Sonus Faber Lumina II sounds exciting, engaging, and intriguing without ever crossing the irritation threshold or causing listening fatigue.

Don't base your opinion on the compact size or favorable price of the Sonus Faber Lumina II; instead, come listen to the magnificent sound these special compact monitors can deliver. Certainly for the money you pay for these hand-built Italian speakers, there is little to no competition with comparable or even better performance. The Sonus Faber Lumina II is very suitable for use as a stereo pair, but can also be used excellently in surround setups.
