General: The 5th generation of the well-known Sonus Faber Guarneri, the Guarneri G5.

Technology: The new Sonus Faber Guarneri G5 is a further development of its predecessor, the Guarneri Tradition. The cabinet has largely remained the same, but new midwoofers have been applied, and renewed and improved crossovers. This new midwoofer is driven by a powerful Neodymium magnet and is designed to have an even lower noise floor and less distortion. The veneer is now laid in a herringbone pattern on the speakers and the aluminum edges have been made dark gray, giving a more modern and sober look compared to its predecessor which featured a large round indentation with 'SF' logo on top of the speaker and shiny aluminum edges. The stands are now optional, but certainly recommended, not only will you achieve the best sound results on the beautiful original carbon and aluminum stands, but you also have more freedom of movement regarding placement, and aesthetically you'll achieve the best look with them. The cabinet of the Sonus Faber Guarneri G5 is extremely solidly built and due to its lute shape and materials used, cabinet resonance is minimal. The bass reflex port is also cleverly designed, it is a long slot that provides improved dispersion of the energy pushed from inside the cabinet outward compared to a standard round bass port. Sonus Faber calls this port themselves a "Stealth Ultraflex" port, fancy.

Listening: The Sonus Faber Guarneri G5 is the most transparent and detailed sounding Guarneri speaker to date. The bass reproduction is also very extensive and musical for a standmount 2-way speaker. Sonus Faber speakers nowadays play with enormous ease, the Guarneri G5 is no exception. The room is filled with music, the voices really come through to you and the instruments fit together rhythmically excellently. Coherent and harmonic are terms with which we can describe the sound of the Sonus Faber Guarneri G5. All details and performers in the recording can be individually distinguished from each other, yet it plays in complete balance together with everything else. There is a slight warm tint throughout the sound which provides comfortable and natural reproduction without listening fatigue. The sound, especially the voices or instruments in the foreground are actually brought to the foreground, right in front of you. This makes you feel like you're in the middle of the recording and thus experience an engaging listening experience. All in all, the Sonus Faber Guarneri G5 is a very intriguing and complete speaker with a magnificent design and a very extensive musical reproduction.
