General: The Sonus Faber Sonetto range has been completely redesigned and transformed into the Sonetto G2 series. The Sonetto II G2 is the larger sibling of the Sonetto I G2 monitor speaker. The Sonetto II G2 has a slightly larger cabinet volume and a larger mid/bass woofer. Below the Sonetto II G2 is the Sonetto I G2, and above the Sonetto II G2 are the floor-standing speakers from the Sonetto G2 series, the Sonetto III G2, the Sonetto V G2 and the Sonetto VIII G2. The Sonetto G2 series has been improved in many aspects compared to the first Sonetto series, both in terms of sound quality and looks.

Technology: A major change compared to its predecessor is that the Sonus Faber Sonetto II G2 now has its enclosure elevated on a concrete base plate for increased stability and improved resonance control. The wooden cabinet of the Sonetto II G2 features a bass reflex port on the underside, which directs air against the concrete plate which then has an opening on the front. Because there is no port on the back, the Sonetto II G2 can be placed closer to the rear wall, or even placed on sideboards or TV stands. Additionally, the cabinet has been significantly reinforced compared to its predecessor, and the interior is equipped with cork for musical resonance control and damping, without absorbing energy from the music. The finish is clearly of a higher level than the excellent first generation Sonetto speakers, and sonically the Sonus Faber Sonetto II G2 goes considerably further than its predecessor.

Listening: The Sonus Faber Sonetto II G2 is essentially improved in every aspect compared to its predecessor. The bass goes deeper and has more body and punch. The bass is also tighter thanks to the sturdy concrete base plate. The midrange and treble have clearly improved and move more toward the sound of the more expensive Olympica Nova series from Sonus Faber. You hear much more detail and the soundstage is larger, but the midrange is also fuller and more pleasant. All in all, Sonus Faber has made significant progress with the Sonetto II G2, and indeed the rest of the Sonetto G2 series speakers compared to an already excellent series of speakers. The price has gone up somewhat, but the G2 series are certainly worth this premium, both in terms of build quality, looks and musicality. The Sonetto II G2 has a more complete, spacious and controlled sound than the Sonetto I G2 due to its larger cabinet and mid/bass woofer.
