General: The Quad 3CDT is the CD transport from the recently continued legendary 3-series by Quad. In this 3-series you will also find the 33 preamplifier, the 303 Stereo/Mono power amplifier and the 3 integrated amplifier. The Quad 3-series consists of newly released equipment which in design and musicality is based on the vintage Quad 3-series from the late 1960s. Of course, the Quad 3CDT is a new design, because back then there were no CDs, but in terms of design, the Quad 3CDT is perfectly matched to the rest of Quad's 3-series. For this reason, the Quad 3CDT can rightfully call itself a full member of the 3-family.

Technology: The looks may be retro, with the orange old school display and matte grey front, but the technology in the Quad 3CDT is very modern. The Quad 3CDT derives its strength from simplicity and quality. This is purely a CD transport with two digital outputs, an SPDIF Coax RCA output and a Toslink Optical output. There is no DAC in the Quad 3CDT and there are no analog outputs on this device. The mechanism in the Quad 3CDT is a very high-quality and specially designed CD servo system with extremely high precision and stability. Every detail of the laser assembly and servo system is optimized to minimize read errors, jitter and distortion to output the music signal as original and pure as possible. The laser and servo circuits each have their own isolated power supply to prevent interference between them. The very precise master clock has its own low noise power supply and creates an extremely low amount of jitter. Sound : The Quad 3CDT is clearly not a hastily assembled CD transport merely to have something to offer alongside the rest of the 3-series. It is truly a standalone and high-quality player that outperforms the competition on every front in its price class. The sound of the Quad 3CDT is rhythmic, clean and spatial. The sound has a pleasant glow but never feels warm or muddy. Voices are easy to understand, even while busy music plays in the background, or when multiple voices sing simultaneously. Rhythmically, the sound is also very well put together, big band jazz swings brilliantly, electronic music is rendered solid and clear, and percussion has life and impact. It is truly remarkable at what level this very affordable CD transport performs. Aesthetically, the Quad 3CDT naturally fits perfectly with the rest of the 3-series, especially the Quad 3 integrated amplifier with built-in DAC.
