General : The Sonus Faber Lumina II is the larger sibling of Sonus Faber's smallest speaker, built on the same principle, but larger. It therefore sounds more complete and has slightly deeper bass.

Technology : The Sonus Faber Lumina II is finished to the highest standard according to Sonus Faber's specification. Only natural materials are used for the cabinet and the units. The cabinet itself is a small, square design finished on all sides with genuine leather. The front is available in different finishes, namely high-gloss black, or genuine wood veneer in dark Wenge or the lighter Walnut finish. Both the tweeter and the woofer are made of natural materials; the 6 inch woofer is a paper composite and the tweeter is an iconic D.A.D. (Damped Apex Dome) 29mm Kurtmüller silk dome tweeter which is also used in the higher Sonetto series of Sonus Faber. Around both the tweeter and the woofer is a soft material that reduces radiation to the sides, with a beautiful chrome ring around it which is purely for design. The overall look is simply stunning. The bass reflex port of the Sonus Faber Lumina II is located on the front, which makes the Sonus Faber Lumina II very easy to place, even if you position them close to the rear wall.

Listening : The Sonus Faber Lumina II is a very special compact speaker, in terms of size not much larger than the Lumina I, but the Lumina II sounds one step better than the Lumina I. The room is filled with music in a very high-quality manner. The bass is also many times better than you would expect from a speaker of this size. The bass also extends slightly deeper than the Lumina I; the overall sound reproduction sounds just a bit easier and smoother. You can really hear the Sonus Faber character in the Lumina II. This means you get a beautiful and spacious soundstage, with naturally sounding voices and instruments with slightly warm undertones. The Sonus Faber Lumina II is also rhythmically excellent; the sound is quick and open and all details are clearly audible, and the separation of multiple voices or instruments is also very clear. In short, the Sonus Faber Lumina II articulates excellently and lets you enjoy the entire recording and everything that happens in it. The Sonus Faber Lumina II sounds exciting, engaging and intriguing without ever crossing the irritation threshold or causing listening fatigue.

Conclusion : The Sonus Faber Lumina II is a nice step up compared to the Lumina I. The Lumina II is somewhat more suitable for people who want a fuller bass response and a slightly wider soundstage. Don't base your opinion on the small size or the favorable price of the Sonus Faber Lumina II, but instead come and listen to the impressive sound that these special compact monitors can deliver. Especially for the money you pay for these hand-built Italian speakers, there is little to no competition with similar, let alone better, performance. The Sonus Faber Lumina II is very suitable as a stereo pair, but they can also be used excellently in surround configurations.
