General: The McIntosh MC152 is the most affordable power amplifier from McIntosh. Nevertheless, it is a large, stable and solidly built power amplifier, suitable for many types of systems.

Technology: The McIntosh MC152 is a very solidly built and stable power amplifier with distinctive techniques. The McIntosh MC152 offers both a balanced and an unbalanced input which can be switched using a switch on the back panel. A unique technique of McIntosh amplifiers is that McIntosh uses output transformers (called Output Autoformer by McIntosh itself) in transistor amplifiers, including the MC152. Normally, output transformers are found only in tube amplifiers; a transistor does not need an output transformer in principle. Nevertheless, it can offer advantages: an output transformer, for example, does not let direct current (DC) through, and the transistors have to handle less current, which keeps the transistors cooler and makes them more efficient in power consumption. The fact that the McIntosh MC152 barely gets warm is not only due to the fact that it has output transformers, but also due to the cooling fins developed by McIntosh itself on the sides of the amplifier. For protection, the McIntosh MC152 has 'Power Guard' which ensures that the amplifier cannot clip, so your speakers are not at risk. In case of overvoltage or short circuit, the McIntosh MC152 has a fuseless protection built in, called 'Sentry Monitor'. By not using fuses, the current is therefore hardly restricted, which benefits sound quality.

Design: You can almost always recognize a McIntosh device from a kilometer away, as is the case with the McIntosh MC152. The MC152 features the characteristic black glass panel on the front where the McIntosh logo lights up in green and where 2 analog meters with an illuminated blue background are located.
