General: The Square 5 from British manufacturer Wilson Benesch is an excellent floor-standing loudspeaker with a high level of musicality.

Technology: The Wilson Benesch Square 5 uses a 4-way configuration, with the lower frequency range provided by an isobaric driver system in the speaker's base. The passive radiator at the rear, also known as the Assisted Bass Radiator, captures the remaining resonances and translates them into exceptionally tight reproduction. Combined with the clever internal cabinet construction, this makes it possible to drive the midrange unfiltered, allowing the midrange to be driven directly from the amplifier without additional components that would impede current flow in the signal path.

Listening Experience: Plenty of impressive features to talk about, but ultimately it comes down to creating a good listening experience. In the case of the Square 5, this has certainly been achieved. Because the midrange is unfiltered, the midrange sounds incredibly open and pure. Voices come extremely close to you and there is an enormous live feeling present. The reproduction is very balanced, the overall picture is spot on and all the features bring out the musicality without sounding technical. The bass reproduction is also very special, unusually tight and rhythmic. This is absolutely not a bombastic loudspeaker but the bass reproduction is extremely pure and free from resonances.
