General: The Magnepan 2.7 is the latest creation from Magnepan. It is a model positioned between the smaller MG1.7 and the larger MG 3.7. This is also the X-version, which is the newest and best generation of Magnepan loudspeakers today.

Technology: The Magnepan 2.7X is a 3-way floor-standing magnetostatic loudspeaker. It stands 180cm tall, but is considerably narrower than its larger sibling, the Magnepan 3.7i/3.7X. The Magnepan 2.7X uses, just like the larger Magnepan models, a true ribbon tweeter for the high frequencies. This truly sets it apart from the MG1.7i. Now people who don't have the space for a large and wide MG3.7 or MG20.7 can also enjoy the finest high-frequency performance that Magnepan has to offer.

X-series: This is a Magnepan 2.7X. In developing the new X-series, many improvements have been made, namely the following:
- Capacitors: All capacitors have been replaced with high-quality, copper-rich polypropylene capacitors. All capacitors are individually measured and matched for the least deviation in value between the capacitors placed in the loudspeakers.
- Coils: The coils in the crossover have been replaced with coils using copper wire with a larger diameter. The coils are also individually measured and matched.
- Internal Wiring: All internal wiring, except for the (+) and (-) wires of the tweeter, has been replaced with 1.65mm² solid copper wiring. All excess wiring (such as for assembly convenience) has been completely removed to create the most direct signal paths.
- Connections: All connections in the loudspeaker are now optimally soldered, with no mechanical connections remaining in the signal path.
- Loudspeaker Inputs: The new loudspeaker inputs are gold-plated rather than nickel-plated. Gold has a more musical character than nickel.

Listening: The new Magnepan 2.7X is a very special speaker. Certainly this X-version of the 2.7 has an enormously detailed and clean sound. The bass reproduction is extremely tight and musical, and what is also appreciated is that the Magnepan 2.7X does not try to reproduce more bass than is possible from its panel. This ensures the bass reproduction always remains balanced and never becomes muddled. The midtones and high tones have made enormous progress with the Magnepan 2.7X, there is clearly much more detail, more air, and better articulation. It's remarkable how effortlessly the Magnepan 2.7X fills the room with music and how clean, intelligible and resonance-free everything sounds. Not only does the sound work technically very well, it is also highly musical, sitting still is a difficult proposition when listening to this new Magnepan 2.7X.
