General: The McIntosh MCD600 is McIntosh's top-of-the-line CD/SACD player.

Technology: The McIntosh MCD600 features a newly designed digital circuit with a high-end 8-channel Quad Balanced D/A Converter. This means 4 DAC channels are assigned to both the left and right audio channels. All CDs and PCM files played on the McIntosh MCD600 are upsampled to 32bit/384kHz. The new CD tray is made of cast aluminum and moves very quietly and smoothly. CDs are read at high speed, and the McIntosh MCD600 reads CDs twice as fast as normal, providing superior error correction and disc tracking. In addition to CDs and SACDs, the McIntosh MCD600 can also play files from a USB stick, accepting virtually all file formats including AAC, AIFF, ALAC, FLAC, MP3, WAV (up to 24bit/192kHz) and even DSD files (up to DSD128). The McIntosh MCD600 also features 2 digital inputs (SPDIF Coax and Toslink/Optical) so you can connect external sources such as a streamer or TV. On the rear of the McIntosh MCD600 you'll find 4 sets of analog outputs, both variable and fixed outputs, and both variable and fixed outputs have an unbalanced RCA output as well as a balanced XLR output. The variable output allows you to control the volume, which means you can connect the McIntosh MCD600 directly to a power amplifier without an external preamplifier. There's also a high-quality headphone connection so you can connect your headphones directly to the McIntosh MCD600. On the front you'll find a dial to select the input, a dial to adjust the volume, the standard Play/Pause, Stop, Open/Close, Back, Next buttons and a Stand By button. The USB port for connecting an external USB stick is also on the front for easy access.

Appearance: You can almost always recognize a McIntosh device from a kilometer away, and the McIntosh MCD600 is no exception. The MCD600 features the characteristic black glass plate on the front where the McIntosh logo glows in green. Below that you'll find an LED display showing the track number and progress. The intensity of the LED screen can easily be dimmed or brightened. And right at the front you'll find 2 large shiny knobs for volume control and input switching. The McIntosh MCD600 is very solidly built and truly a sight to behold. The dimensions are 44.5cm (W) x 15.2cm (H) x 48.3cm (D), the MCD600 weighs 12.7 kg.

Sound : The McIntosh MCD600 has the typical McIntosh character. This means that the MCD600 sounds beautifully full, detailed and rich. The difference from older McIntosh equipment lies more in the detail and tangibility of the soundstage. The MCD600 also sounds more precise and airier than the older McIntosh CD players, which sound somewhat darker than the newer generation McIntosh CD players. The McIntosh MCD600 will never give too much or too little of anything. The sound is very controlled and balanced, and even at higher volumes with heavier music, the McIntosh MCD600 maintains its grip and the sound remains comfortable so you don't need to rush to turn down the volume. This means that after hours, days, weeks, months or years you can still enjoy the McIntosh MCD600. The overall picture is simply right and doesn't give the feeling that you're really listening to a digital signal, the music is reproduced with full emotion, which creates more emotion and involvement with the music. Although the McIntosh MCD600 sounds refined, it doesn't sound boring or too tame. Due to this very refined character, the McIntosh MCD600 is suitable for virtually any type of music at virtually any volume on virtually any type of speaker. It is also worth mentioning the excellent service that McIntosh offers on its equipment, so you don't need to worry about the future, as spare parts are in ample stock and can easily be sourced in the future, and McIntosh never leaves its customers in the lurch, as it should be.
