Technical: The ProAc Response D48R is a sleek and substantial 2-way floor standing loudspeaker. The woofer/midrange speakers are a ProAc driver with carbon fiber membrane and a fabric dome. The ProAc Response D48R is available in two versions, the version with a dome tweeter and the version with a ribbon tweeter. This is the version with the excellent and transparent-sounding ribbon tweeter. The connections are high-quality rhodium-plated connectors and they are biwire connections, which enables bi-amping. The ProAc Response D48 has a bass reflex opening at the bottom, which is tuned very deep. You can therefore place the ProAc Response D48R relatively close to the wall, but not too close as the bass response extends deeply, and the D48R appreciates some freedom in placement. A 2-way loudspeaker often has advantages in terms of sound quality because the filter technology is simpler, which results in fewer components in the signal path and an easier task for amplifiers. The look of this ProAc D48R set is classic, square and stylish, finished in a black ash wood veneer.

Listening: When properly set up and connected to a musical and somewhat powerful amplifier, it immediately becomes apparent how friendly and generous the ProAc Response D48R sounds. Most ProAcs we know have a somewhat similar tonal balance. Grand, deep bass and a calm tuning with plenty of detail. The sound and imaging are clearly a notch above the already fantastic-sounding D30RS. The bass response is very deep and tuneful, the midrange is beautifully and calmly tuned, and the high frequency response, thanks to the excellent ribbon tweeter, is unsurpassedly precise and calm at the same time. The efficiency is excellent and the impedance behavior is favorable, so you can also drive the ProAc Response D48R very well with a good tube amplifier or class A amplifier. The balance between comfort and warmth, but also dynamics and transparency, provides a very complete listening experience that you can enjoy for years on end.

This ProAc D48R set is in good condition and shows some light signs of use, we rate this set at 8/10.
