General: Borresen Acoustics manufactures multiple loudspeaker series, including the excellent affordable X-series, above that the high-quality C-series, and above that sits the high-end T-series. But the M-series is the flagship reference series of loudspeakers from Borresen Acoustics. The M-series loudspeakers rank among the best of the best on the loudspeaker market. The Borresen M6 was the largest model in the M-series before the arrival of the M8. It remains the largest model in the M-series with a slim design without dipole bass woofers.
Technology: The Borresen M6 is technologically one of the most exotic loudspeakers on the market. The techniques and materials used are unlike any other loudspeaker manufacturer. Most large loudspeaker manufacturers purchase loudspeaker units, but Borresen makes their own drivers. The enclosure is made from a natural composite material and internally braced. The Borresen M6 enclosure contains no fewer than 5 compartments. One for the two bass woofers in the upper half of the enclosure, one for the midrange above the tweeter, one for the tweeter, one for the midrange below the tweeter, and one for the two bass woofers in the lower half of the enclosure. All drivers and the tweeter are therefore isolated from each other. The compartment of the in-house made Borresen RP94 ribbon tweeter is, like the other compartments in the M6, open at the rear, allowing the tweeter to see open space both front and back. This provides a more linear response compared to a tweeter in a sealed compartment within the enclosure. Both above and below the tweeter sits a midrange driver in a D'Appolito configuration. The midrange compartments are vented through a semi-damped port in the form of a long slot. Behind this slot are mounted brackets that disperse the air. The midrange drivers in the Borresen M6 are not filtered downward, so they participate in bass reproduction for a smooth transition between bass and midrange, which is why the Borresen M6 is a 2.5-way system rather than a 3-way system. The 4 bass woofers are positioned in pairs at the very top and bottom of the enclosure. The bass woofers are also vented through an elongated port with dispersion brackets on the rear of the loudspeaker. This port is not damped with foam like the midrange compartment ports.
The 6 drivers used in the M6 are Borresen IronFree 5 Zirconium SSE mid/bass drivers, a driver unique in the world. First, there is the basket, an asymmetrical 3D printed basket of solid zirconium. This basket provides optimal stability and airflow for the mid/bass driver. Manufacturing just one such basket costs thousands of dollars in production costs. The magnets used are the most powerful neodymium magnets on the market, with no iron in the magnet system. Additionally, an in-house fabricated pure silver pole ring is used in the magnet system for the lowest possible inductance. The membrane of the drivers in the Borresen M6 is made of 2 layers of spread tow carbon with a layer of aramide (better known as Kevlar) in honeycomb design between them. These 3 layers are pressed stiffly together and secured to each other with a small amount of epoxy. However, the M-series has an additional layer on the cone, namely a thin layer of titanium with a very fine and special coating layer, which Audio Group Denmark calls 'Supreme Coating'. This Supreme Coating is made of a zirconium base layer, with tungsten on top and aluminum chromium nitride on top of that. This coating layer is applied to the titanium in a Hi-PIMS (High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering) machine. All this effort and exotic materials are not in vain, the result is one of the most unique, stable, distortion-free and musical drivers on the market. The Borresen RP94 ribbon tweeter is also unique and found only in Borresen Acoustics loudspeakers. This tweeter is also manufactured in-house. The membrane of this tweeter weighs only a minuscule 0.01 grams, yet it is a strong material that can withstand a minor impact. Because the moving mass of this tweeter is so low, no energy can be stored in it, resulting in completely distortion-free reproduction.
The internal wiring is entirely Ansuz Acoustics D-TC3 Gold Signature wiring. This wiring consists of a copper core that is subsequently silver-plated and even gold-plated, providing a unique, clean and extremely musical sound. The loudspeaker connections accept only banana plugs. Below the loudspeaker connections, there is also one 14 Volt BNC input. This latter input is to power the active noise cancelling Tesla Coil techniques from sister brand Ansuz Acoustics used in the Borresen M6. Two adapters are supplied with a set of M6, but you can also choose to power this 14 Volt connection from an Ansuz Acoustics PowerBox model for best results.
Isolation: The base plate is a stylish sandwich solution of 2 layers of solid titanium with a layer of compact laminate between them. On top of that sits an angled piece of composite material on which the enclosure rests. This bottom, consisting of multiple layers, ensures optimal resonance behavior of the entire enclosure, resulting in less stress in the sound. For additional resonance control, 8 pieces of Ansuz Darkz Z3W isolators are supplied with a set of Borresen M6. The Darkz Z3W are isolators with solid zirconium discs that have been surface treated with a very fine layer of zirconium and hafnium, which, like the coating layer on the membranes of the Borresen M6 drivers, have been applied by a Hi-PIMS machine. Between these zirconium discs are tungsten balls that provide the isolation. These Ansuz Darkz Z3W with a retail value of € 28,800 for 8 pieces should be placed under the feet of the base plate. The feet under the base plate are adjustable in height to level the loudspeakers.
All in all, the Borresen M6 is one of the most exclusive and unique loudspeakers on the high-end audio market.
Listening: Listening to a Borresen loudspeaker system is always a pleasure. You consistently hear solid and deep bass reproduction and extremely low distortion. The sound also completely separates from the speakers. You can position the Borresen loudspeakers very wide, and that often produces excellent results. The midrange is still completely filled. The Borresen M6 adds another level to that, what you hear here is practically pure magic. Everything plays with such ease, and it sounds so honest, free and transparent that you almost don't realize you're listening to loudspeakers. The Borresen M6 sets new standards in loudspeaker design and sound, it is an exceptionally distinctive sounding system. The Borresen M6 can be placed in many rooms, provided some attention is given to placement and space is created around the loudspeakers. But even in a listening room of 100 m² the M6 can easily fill the entire room. The Borresen M6 sounds grand, honest and tight. Voices and instruments sound truly live. The Borresen M6, with its somewhat larger and primarily taller enclosure, also has a much larger and taller 3D soundstage than its smaller siblings, the Borresen M2 and M3. The M6 also plays more easily and deeper in the bass due to its larger number of bass woofers than the smaller models in the M-series. There is one model above the Borresen M6, namely the statement model, the Børresen M8 Gold Signature. The M8 Gold Signature costs one million euros per set and is completely differently constructed than the slim and stylish M6. For a loudspeaker with such a slim enclosure, there is nothing but respect for how complete, large and powerful the overall musical reproduction of the Borresen M6 is compared to other reference loudspeakers. Sublime.
Unfortunately, we do not have the Borresen Acoustics M6 in stock, but one of the smaller siblings of the M6, namely the Borresen M2. These can be auditioned by appointment. The Borresen M3 is available to order, please inquire about delivery time.
