General : The Seawave Acoustic AM34 is a unique approach to a horn system. Extensive use is made of components and techniques from in-house production. The result is a High End horn speaker like no other, fully made in South Korea.
Technology : There is much remarkable to report about Seawave Acoustic's techniques. For instance, you won't find a trace of solder in the current Seawave Acoustic speakers. The coils and capacitors for the crossover are high-quality Kapton coils and capacitors from in-house production, and the resistors are special ceramic resistors, also from in-house production of course, and thus assembled without solder. We know many of the speakers in the world. Usually the technology is broadly similar everywhere. A 2-way or 3-way speaker, and a large bass woofer and a smaller midrange driver and a tweeter, housed in a usually MDF/HDF enclosure. They all sound good, the more expensive ones often better than the cheaper ones because of better components. Most components come from some factory. Units, crossovers, cabinets and everything else. Seawave Acoustic is different. We noticed the brand during the Hifi Deluxe show at the Marriott Hotel in Munich in 2022, and this was the room where we lingered the longest. The AM23 by Seawave Acoustic was playing in the space. The sound was wonderfully beautiful, musical and simply very authentic, very addictive. We decided quite quickly to bring this brand to the Benelux for music lovers here.
Absolutely everything is different about Seawave Acoustic. First of all, the unique enclosure. This enclosure is a solid cast enclosure made of AC4C aluminium. Not standard aluminium but Aluminium combined with Silicon and Magnesium. This provides a very stiff, heavy but also resonance-free enclosure. Of course, it is a complex and expensive affair to produce such an enclosure, but the result is truly excellent. It not only looks magnificent, but acoustically it is extremely good. The enclosure contains 4 units. Two 8" Bass Woofers from Eton, custom produced for Seawave Acoustic. In the large horn on top of the AM34 sits a 2" Titanium Compression Driver that handles the largest frequency range. Above the bass woofers is a 1" Hanji Compression Super Tweeter for the absolute high treble and harmonic balance.
The cabinet and the units are already very special. But the crossover technology is the next area in which Seawave Acoustic excels. Seawave Acoustic makes everything themselves. The resistors, the Coils (Inductors) and the Capacitors. A normal inductor is a coil of enormous length of thin copper wire. A coil with the same value is made by Seawave Acoustic from just 9 meters of Kapton flat wire. This makes the signal path considerably shorter than in speakers with traditional inductors, and you hear that directly in the openness and the ease with which the Seawave AM34 plays. Ultimately, all these ultra high-quality components are coupled together via NSC, which stands for Non Soldering Connection. Not a trace of solder is used throughout the Seawave AM34. All components are crimped together under high pressure. Even the resistors on the crossover and the Litz wires of the drivers themselves are crimped directly to the internal wiring and secured with a special resin. We have never seen or heard of anything like that. The reason for NSC is that Seawave Acoustic believes that solder connections negatively affect the signal path. By using NSC, dynamics are preserved and the speakers sound much more open and clean. Technically, the Seawave Acoustic AM34 is thus a technical masterpiece, and we dare say that the Seawave AM34 ranks among the most advanced and unique horn speakers on the planet. But good technology is nice, of course, but does it sound good?
Sound : The Seawave AM34 weighs a full 110(!) kg each, but they are easy to move thanks to the rotating round feet that allow you to roll the speakers to their position. Once placed and positioned correctly, an enormous musical soundstage reveals itself that is very spatial, precise and refined. The bass goes very deep, is very potent, and sounds very precise. Even at high volumes, the control is phenomenal. The transition to the mid/high horn is inaudible. The low range, mid range and high range play together very harmoniously, which provides an intriguing listening experience. It certainly takes 200 hours of solid playing to get the mid horn properly broken in, but then you have something special. A musical stage unfolds, large, clear, interesting and unparalleled refined. The reproduction is so refined that you catch everything that happens in an enormously clear and relaxed manner which we have not heard before from a horn speaker. A horn speaker often sounds very direct and pushes the sound forward quite a bit, this is not the case with the Seawave AM34. You hardly notice that you are listening to a horn, and that is high praise for a horn speaker. The Seawave AM34 is a true musical speaker, which can play hard when needed, but remains very controlled in the meantime. But the Seawave AM34 can also play at quiet room volume and then you can still enjoy the entire recording in a refined and musical way. Both Yello, Mozart and Miles Davis sound as they should.
Are you looking for new high-end speakers in the class of Magico / YG / Avalon / Wilson and so on? Then be sure to listen to these Seawave Acoustics AM34. They will surprise and amaze you, and we think they will beat the rest of the market!
We from team Ohm Audio are super enthusiastic about the Seawave AM34 and we cordially invite you to come listen to this unique speaker system.
