General: Floor-standing version of the Sonus Faber Electa Amator III in the unique Graphite finish, which carries a 20% premium compared to the standard walnut wood version.

Technical Details: The Sonus Faber Maxima Amator is a floor-standing loudspeaker made from solid walnut wood. It is the cabinet with the longest pieces of solid wood ever produced by Sonus Faber. The wood has been carefully dried for years and joined together with special adhesive. Walnut wood is heavy, strong, very dense and resonates extremely little. The loudspeaker units are the same as in the Electa Amator III, yet the Maxima Amator sounds different. The cabinet volume is much larger, which results in a purer and more fluid bass response. But the biggest difference is the crossover. It has now become a Single Wiring filter with entirely new techniques. The components in the filter are also different. For example, the air coils are enormous, and they are made of Litz wire instead of solid core. The very high-quality filter is housed in a separate enclosure, vibration-free, and also visible. It sits behind glass, right next to the connections. The tweeter is a Neodymium magnet-driven 28mm D.A.D. (Damped Apex Dome) tweeter, which is integrated in its own compartment in the housing. It is a truly sublime tweeter, one of the most musical on the market. The bass/midrange driver is a 180mm unit, driven by a large conventional magnet, because we wanted a very smooth and pure midrange reproduction. The crossover frequency is low at 2100 Hz. The base of the Sonus Faber Maxima Amator is made of dark solid natural stone, carefully selected to match the beautiful neutral Graphite finish. The Sonus Faber Maxima Amator has been a passion project for Sonus Faber, but the acoustic result is outstanding.

Listening: The Sonus Faber Maxima Amator is a unique loudspeaker. Like the Electa Amator III, this is a special loudspeaker. You feel right at home immediately. The sound is open, smooth and spacious. But what particularly stands out is the enormous naturalness. The Sonus Faber Maxima Amator is not a loudspeaker you have to run in for 1000 hours before you can enjoy it; it sounds good right away. But after a few hundred hours you will notice improvements in overall harmony and coherence, the sound separates further from the speakers and the bass seems to roll toward you more. This young and perfectly maintained preowned set already has some hours on it and therefore sounds sublime. Compared to the Electa Amator III, the Sonus Faber Maxima Amator sounds more mature, and the bass is deeper and better defined. The Sonus Faber Maxima Amator can also play quite loudly without distortion, but it is not a disco speaker; it is a loudspeaker for the enthusiast who appreciates beautiful and elegant design with a rich and spacious, pleasant sound.
