General : The M8 Gold Signature from Danish brand Børresen Acoustics is not just a speaker, it is a statement. A statement of what is possible when you push the boundaries of speaker design to the limit. The Borresen M8 Gold Signature is the largest model in the flagship M-series from Borresen Acoustics. Yet the design and engineering of the M8 Gold Signature differs significantly from the smaller models in the M-series.

Engineering : The Borresen M8 Gold Signature is technically one of the most exotic speakers on the market, if not the most exotic. The technologies and materials used are unlike any other speaker manufacturer. Most large speaker manufacturers buy speaker units from suppliers, but Borresen Acoustics manufactures their own drivers. The Borresen M8 Gold Signature features the latest Børresen IronFree5 Gold Signature midrange drivers and Børresen IronFree8 Gold Signature subwoofers. The enclosure consists of 3 separate modules; the bottom module contains 6 subwoofers in a dipole enclosure based on the Borresen BM3 bass modules. In the middle module of the enclosure are the 2 midrange drivers and tweeter in a D'Appolito configuration. And in the top module of the enclosure are another 6 dipole subwoofers. In total, twelve 8 inch woofers per speaker are employed in the M8 Gold Signature. Because these subwoofers are directed towards each other and thus work together in combination with the completely open front and back, the room is not loaded with pressure like a (or several) large subwoofer(s) in a closed box would do. Also, by using multiple 8 inch woofers instead of one or more enormous and slow 12 inch or 15 inch woofers, the bass response is faster and better defined. The bass response of the Borresen M8 Gold Signature cannot be compared to any other speaker, but the same applies to the midrange and treble. The enclosure itself is made of carefully selected wood-based laminate and features carbon accents that not only provide reinforcement but also look stylish. Internally, the enclosure is reinforced with stainless steel braces.

Midrange Drivers : The midrange drivers are the latest development from Borresen Acoustics and the main reason the M8 Gold Signature is more than just an M8. All speakers in the M-series from Borresen Acoustics already use the D-TC3 Gold Signature wiring from sister brand Ansuz Acoustics. But with the M8 Gold Signature, a new driver was created with a new magnet system and a new basket. In the magnet system of the Børresen IronFree5 Gold Signature midrange drivers is now a pole ring of pure copper, which has subsequently been silver-plated and then even generously gold-plated. In the regular M-series, this pole ring is made of solid silver, but this pole ring of copper, silver and pure gold has even lower inductance generation in the magnet system and additionally, the musicality was also significantly increased due to the application of gold. The magnets in the drivers themselves are four Neodymium N52 magnet rings arranged in mirror-image, mutually repelling pairs, namely two outer rings and two inner rings that surround the voice coil. These magnets are mechanically compressed into a perfectly symmetrical structure that distributes the magnetic flux evenly in the narrow space where the titanium voice coil moves. The result is a homogeneous magnetic field that remains stable at every position of the voice coil, ensuring linear movement without the hysteresis and energy storage associated with traditional iron-based systems. The new basket around this driver is machined from a solid block of stainless steel and subsequently coated with Ansuz Acoustics Signature coating consisting of titanium, zirconium, hafnium and their nitrides. Additionally, the basket is cryogenically treated to remove stress from the metal, which improves the crystal structure in the metal and relieves stress from the metal.

Tweeter : The tweeter in the Borresen M8 Gold Signature is, like the tweeter in all Borresen Acoustics models, the in-house manufactured RP94 ribbon tweeter. This tweeter has an extremely light diaphragm that weighs only 0.01 grams, yet the material of this tweeter is very strong and can take a knock. This tweeter is mounted in a plate made of the same material as the baskets of the midrange drivers: stainless steel with Ansuz Signature coating. The tweeter itself is in its own compartment in the enclosure which is vented at the rear so the tweeter functions as a dipole for improved linearity.

Diaphragm : The diaphragms of the midrange drivers in the Borresen M8 Gold Signature are made of 2 layers of spread tow carbon with a layer of aramide (better known as kevlar) in honeycomb design in between. These 3 layers are rigidly pressed together and secured to each other with a small amount of epoxy enriched with graphene and boron filaments. But the M-series have an extra layer on the cone, namely a thin layer of titanium that has a very fine and special version of the Ansuz Signature coating layer. This coating layer is many times finer than the Signature coating layer that sits on the baskets and tweeter frame. The Signature coating layer is applied to the titanium in a Hi-PIMS (High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering) machine. All this effort and exotic materials are not for nothing, the result is one of the most unique, stable, distortion-free and musical drivers found on the market.

The internal wiring is completely Ansuz Acoustics D-TC3 Gold Signature wiring. This wiring consists of a solidcore copper core that has subsequently been silver-plated and then even gold-plated, which provides a unique, clean and extremely musical sound. The speaker terminals only accept banana plugs. The Borresen M8 Gold Signature features BiWire terminals, allowing bi-amping to be used for the best results. At the speaker terminals one will also find a 14 Volt BNC input. This last input is to power the active noise cancelling Tesla Coil techniques from sister brand Ansuz Acoustics used in the Borresen M8 Gold Signature. The Borresen M8 Gold Signature features an enormous number of the latest generation gold-plated Tesla Coils and Anti Aerial Resonance Coils for pristine reproduction with a jet-black background. Two adapters are supplied with a set of M8 Gold Signature, but you can also choose to power this 14 Volt connection from an Ansuz Acoustics PowerBox model for the best results.

Decoupling : The base plate is a stylish sandwich solution of 2 layers of solid titanium with a layer of compact laminate in between. On top of this base plate sits the rest of the enclosure. This bottom consisting of multiple layers ensures optimal resonance behavior of the entire enclosure, which reduces stress in the sound. Furthermore, the enclosure consists of 3 modules which are loosely stacked on top of each other with decoupling between each module. For extra resonance control, 8 pieces of Ansuz Darkz Z3W decouplers are supplied with a set of Borresen M8 Gold Signature. The Ansuz Darkz Z3W are decouplers with discs of solid zirconium that have been surface-treated with a very fine layer of zirconium and hafnium which, like the coating layer on the membranes of the Borresen M8 Gold Signature drivers, are applied by a Hi-PIMS machine. Between these zirconium discs are tungsten balls that provide the decoupling. These Ansuz Darkz Z3W with a retail value of € 28.800,- for 8 pieces should be placed under the feet of the base plate. The feet under the base plate are adjustable in height to level the speakers.

All in all, the Borresen M8 Gold Signature is a statement in the field of speaker design, applied materials, techniques and music reproduction. The Borresen M8 Gold Signature is among the best speakers to be found in the world, no other speaker sounds like a Borresen M8 Gold Signature.

Listening : Listening to a Borresen speaker system is always a pleasure. You consistently hear solid and tight bass response and extremely low distortion. The sound also comes completely free from the speakers. You can position the Borresen speakers very wide apart, and that often produces a very beautiful result. The midrange remains completely filled. The Borresen M8 Gold Signature goes by far the furthest in these areas. The music is reproduced so effortlessly and distortion-free that in many cases it even sounds more beautiful than in reality. Voices are so rich in detail and emotion that they immediately engage. The treble and overall soundstage are so light, transparent and dynamic without a hint of harshness. And then there is the bass response, with its 12 pieces of 8 inch woofers in dipole design, the bass response is natural, tight and rhythmic. No unnecessary bombastic and exaggerated bass response, but a well-defined and balanced bass response that never resonates or pressurizes the ears. Very special. What you hear on the Borresen M8 Gold Signature is practically pure magic. The Borresen M8 Gold Signature sets new standards in speaker design and sound, it is an exceptionally special sounding system. And it should be for the retail price that is only reserved for the exceptionally fortunate few, but the purpose of making a statement is not accessibility for everyone, it is to see how far you can go when you don't let yourself be limited by the boundaries of cost and personal preferences from the consumer market.
