General : The Borresen 05 SSE (SSE = Silver Supreme Edition) is the largest loudspeaker in the '0-series' of Borresen Acoustics. The Borresen 05 SSE delivers an unparalleled musical experience that you won't forget. It is a large loudspeaker with a sleek and beautiful design. The SSE version is the most expensive and best version of the 05.

Technology : The Borresen 05 SSE has a very thoughtful design. The cabinet is made by Sino Factory, a Danish manufacturer. The black baffle is made of HDF and features a clean, screw-free design. The drivers and crossovers are manufactured by Borresen itself in-house. The drivers & tweeter used are unique. The dipole planar tweeter is made from a special film and has a moving mass of only 0.01 grams, powered by a fast and super powerful Super-Neodymium N52 magnet. The tweeter is housed in its own compartment in the cabinet, which is vented through two ventilation openings on the side and 1 port on the rear of the loudspeaker. The four 8" and two 4.5" cones consist of a 4 millimeter thick 'Nomex Core' design with two layers of non-woven carbon fiber sourced from the Japanese manufacturer 'Toray', a high-tech manufacturer that also supplies components for Formula 1 cars and the aerospace industry. Just like the tweeter, the cones are driven by a Super-Neodymium N52 magnet. The combination of both a light moving mass and a powerful N52 Neodymium drive results in extremely fast acceleration of the units, which ensures rapid sound reproduction. The materials used result in extremely low self-inductance, which minimizes distortion and resonance. The Borresen 05 SSE is an open system, but by cleverly employing diffusers at the bass port, the bass port does not emit large sound waves with high energy toward the wall. Instead, the sound waves are dispersed and reduced, resulting in lower energy output from the bass port. This allows you to place the Borresen 05 SSE closer to the rear wall than you might expect. However, space around the loudspeakers is still beneficial for sound quality. In our opinion, the Borresen 05 SSE is not really suitable for a compact room. Ohm-Audio BV recommends large, spacious rooms, from 30m2 to 100m2 for these powerful loudspeakers.

Versions :

There are 3 versions available of the Borresen 05

- The standard 05. This features T2S decouplers between the cabinet and the base plate.

- The Cryo Edition. This version is identical in construction to the standard version. However, the drivers and crossover components are now cryogenically treated. The components are cooled for 24 hours down to -196 degrees Celsius, then remain at this temperature for 24 hours before being brought back to room temperature over 24 hours. The entire process takes 72 hours. This process changes the internal molecular structure and eliminates stress from the materials. Additionally, the conductivity of the metal is increased by 6-8% and inductance is reduced by 6-8%. The result is a more transparent, direct, and detailed sound reproduction.

- The Silver Supreme Edition (this version). This version is identical to the Cryo version, however this version features hand-cast and CNC-machined pure silver induction rings in the drivers. These drastically change the driver characteristics, in a very positive way. The inductance is so much lower that distortion is reduced by 40%. The Silver Supreme Edition versions sound positively otherworldly.

Listening : The Borresen 05 SSE sounds unlike any other loudspeaker. So controlled, so spatial, so refined and free of resonance, at any volume. It's immediately clear that we're dealing with a very special loudspeaker. The reproduction is very precise and realistic, yet at the same time there's an enormous sense of calm throughout. You find yourself immediately in the space where the performers are playing, whether it's a small studio, a large hall, or even a stadium. The Borresen 05 SSE conveys the atmosphere with great accuracy. The Borresen 05 SSE can play quite loud, and even at the highest volumes, the sound image remains stable and pleasant to listen to. Alongside high volumes, you can of course also listen comfortably at low volumes with the Borresen 05 SSE. Thanks to the very low moving mass of the ultra-light tweeter & midrange/woofers, you can hear every detail clearly and see a spatial image even with quiet music at room volume. The Borresen 05 SSE takes another step further in terms of musical experience, bass impact, and spatial imaging compared to the Borresen 01, 02, and 03.
