Technology : We have known Magnepan for many years. This likeable speaker manufacturer from the USA makes uniquely sounding speaker systems. They are all magnetostatic speakers, without an enclosure. The frame in which the units are mounted is completely open. A Magnepan thus radiates the music forwards and backwards. That is also the reason why a Magnepan sounds best when positioned some distance from the wall. From 50 cm for the small LRS to a meter or more for the proposed 30.7. The LRS and the .7 are 2-way planar speakers, the 1.7i, the 3.7i and the 20.7 are 3-way speakers, and this 30.7 is a 4-way system with a series filter. The entire Magnepan 30.7 is configured like the legendary Tympani speaker of yesteryear. This was a 3-panel speaker system, and the 30.7 is somewhat similar in design, except that both bass panels are now together in one frame. This makes the 30.7 much easier to position. The Magnepan 30.7 bass section is one wide frame, approximately the size of the 20.7. Only the bass panels are housed here. 1 subwoofer frame and 1 bass frame. You connect the Bass Unit to your stereo amplifier or monoblocks. From the bass panel you pass through to the mid/high panel. It is essential that you connect the Magnepan 30.7 this way because the filters in both panels are series filters, and they work together. Biwiring or Biamping is not possible. The mid/high panel is a dual system with a very fast mid-high section and a pure ribbon tweeter for the top treble. The connection is a piece of cake, and after a good break-in period the Magnepan 30.7 sounds like it's from another world.

Sound : Every Magnepan sounds like a Magnepan, that is to say a pure and uncolored reproduction with instruments and voices at their true size, but one Magnepan performs even better than the other. The Magnepan 20.7 was the best speaker Magnepan made, and one of the most honest-sounding systems on the market. The Magnepan 30.7, however, takes things even further. The ease with which everything is reproduced, bass, midrange and treble, is another class higher than everything below it. The 30.7 truly sounds magnificent. Big bands and symphony orchestras are reproduced beautifully pure and grand. Ordinary dynamic speakers don't do it that way, that's for sure. But the 30.7 can also make a solo singer sound at true size, including the associated space in which it was recorded. The Magnepan 30.7 sounds very detailed, but absolutely not harsh. On the contrary, the 30.7 sounds full, the space filled with beautiful sounds and a far-fading echo. And that makes the Magnepan 30.7 very pleasant to listen to, even in the long term. We drive the Magnepan 30.7 with, for example, the Bricasti M25, M28 or M32, but also a simpler set such as Lector, or the new Aavik Pre- and Power Amplifier or even the Integrated Aavik U580 sounds great with this Magnepan 30.7 set. It's quite an unusual sight, a small Aavik U580 with a good source, for example from Antipodes, and you have an ultra good High End set, without a rack full of components. Ohm-Audio BV is one of the few, if not the only company that has the Magnepan 30.7 in stock as standard for demonstration. Be sure to bring your favorite CDs with you.
