General: The Sonus Faber Sonetto range has been completely renewed and has evolved into the Sonetto G2 series. The Sonetto III G2 is the first floor-standing speaker in the Sonetto G2 series; below the Sonetto III G2 are the Sonetto I G2 and Sonetto II G2 bookshelf speakers, and above the Sonetto III G2 are its larger siblings, the Sonetto V G2 and Sonetto VIII G2. The Sonetto G2 series has been improved on many fronts compared to the original Sonetto series, both in terms of sound quality and looks.

Technology: A major change compared to its predecessor is that the Sonus Faber Sonetto III G2 is now a 2.5-way speaker instead of a 3-way speaker. This means the midrange driver is no longer filtered downward and thus contributes to the bass reproduction. This results in a much smoother transition between the bass and midrange. In addition, the cabinet has been significantly reinforced and the enclosure is now fixed on a thick concrete plate for resonance control. The inside of the enclosure is fitted with cork, which you also find in the € 750.000,- Sonus Faber Suprema System and for example also in the new Concertino G4. The midrange driver is based on Sonus Faber's latest Camelia midrange driver, which you also encounter in the Suprema speaker system. The finish is clearly of a higher level than the excellent first generation Sonetto speakers, and sonically the Sonus Faber Sonetto III G2 goes further than its predecessor.

Listening: The Sonus Faber Sonetto III G2 have been improved on virtually every point compared to its predecessor. The bass goes deeper and has more body and punch. The bass is also better positioned, especially on carpeted floors. This is because the concrete base now sits under the downward-firing bass reflex port, so the bass energy is not absorbed by the floor and the bass energy is better preserved. The midrange and treble have clearly improved and move more toward the sound of the more expensive Olympica Nova series from Sonus Faber. You hear much more detail and the soundstage is larger, but the midrange is also fuller and more pleasant. All in all, Sonus Faber has made significant progress with the Sonetto III G2, and in fact the rest of the Sonetto G2 series speakers compared to an already excellent series of speakers. The price has risen somewhat, but the G2 series are definitely worth this premium, both in terms of build quality, looks, and musicality.
