Technology: The Kii Three is the masterpiece of Belgian designer Bruno Putzeys. It is a compact speaker packed with cutting-edge technology. What makes the Kii Three particularly special is its phase-correct reproduction, without timing errors. You rarely achieve this with conventional speakers, and certainly not as tight as with the Kii Three. The phase behavior is nearly perfect across the entire frequency range. But what is most remarkable about the Kii Three is its bass radiation. With every conventional speaker, passive or active, bass below roughly 200Hz radiates around the room. These bass tones reflect off walls, floors, and ceilings, strengthening and weakening the bass depending on where you stand. In one spot the bass is too heavy, a meter away the bass is completely gone. The Kii Three eliminates this problem entirely. The Kii Three also radiates bass down to about 40Hz forward. However, this is not a simple solution. The Kii Three is a 3-way speaker equipped with a very powerful DSP, 6 separate D/A converters—one for each speaker unit—and 6 analog Purifi power amplifiers of 240 watts each. Each Kii Three therefore has 1.440 watts of amplification on board. This is necessary to make each unit work together with the other units without timing errors and phase shifts. This solution is also necessary to control the reproduction below 200Hz. You connect the Kii Three preferably via the Kii Control to your Streamer, such as the excellent Antipodes streamers, directly via USB, or your Sonos Connect via Spdif, but there are also analog inputs available. You can then connect the Kii Three to your analog preamplifier. Via the Controller, the digital signal runs over a UTP cable to one speaker and then via a UTP cable to the other speaker. Connect the power cable and play. The design of the Kii Three is unique and very special, and you can hear that clearly.

The Kii Three can be completely tuned to the room by means of professional filters and DSP control. The Kii Three will therefore perform well in any room, large or small.

Listening: The Kii Three is excellently suited to placement in virtually any room we know. Because the Kii Three barely involves the room in the music reproduction, we can achieve optimal results almost anywhere. The first thing that stands out is the bass reproduction. It is very deep and pure, without overhang. The bass starts and stops very quickly and is perceivable everywhere in the room. The second thing that stands out is the dynamics. You can really play quite loud with the Kii Three. It is hard to believe that this grand sound image comes from this compact speaker. Drum taps sound lifelike in your living room. The third thing that stands out is the purity of the system. The Kii Three sounds very clean, without sounding glossy. It does not matter whether you play Classical, Jazz, Pop, Rock or, for that matter, hard Metal or Dubstep, the Kii Three handles it all without protest. We know no other compact speaker that performs this well. Voice reproduction is also of very high quality. When you consider the purchase price, which already includes the D/A converters, preamplifier, and 6 power amplifiers, this is an absolutely worthwhile purchase.
