General: The Sonus Faber Sonetto series has been completely renewed and transformed into the Sonetto G2 series. The Sonetto I G2 is the smallest speaker in the Sonetto G2 series. The Sonetto I G2 is a beautiful and compact monitor speaker. Above the Sonetto I G2 is the larger Sonetto II G2, as well as the floor-standing speakers from the Sonetto G2 series: the Sonetto III G2, the Sonetto V G2, and the Sonetto VIII G2. The Sonetto G2 series has been improved on many fronts compared to the first Sonetto series, both in terms of sound quality and appearance.

Technology: A major change compared to its predecessor is that the Sonus Faber Sonetto I G2 now has its enclosure elevated on a concrete plate for greater stability and improved resonance control. The wooden enclosure of the Sonetto I G2 has a bass reflex port on the underside, and this air is directed against the concrete plate, which has an opening on the front. Because there is no port on the back, the Sonetto I G2 can be placed closer to the rear wall or even on dressers or TV stands. Additionally, the cabinet is significantly reinforced compared to its predecessor and the enclosure is internally equipped with cork for musical resonance control and damping, without absorbing energy from the music. The finish is clearly of a higher level than the excellent first-generation Sonetto speakers, and the Sonus Faber Sonetto I G2 also sounds considerably better than its predecessor.

Listening: The Sonus Faber Sonetto I G2 has been improved on every point compared to its predecessor. The bass goes deeper and has more body and punch. The bass is also tighter thanks to the solid concrete base plate. The midrange and treble have clearly improved and move more toward the sound of the more expensive Olympica Nova series from Sonus Faber. You hear much more detail and the soundstage is larger, but the midrange is also fuller and more pleasant. Overall, Sonus Faber has made significant progress with the Sonetto I G2, and in fact the entire Sonetto G2 series of speakers, compared to an already excellent series. The price has gone up somewhat, but the G2 series are certainly worth the extra investment, both in terms of build quality, appearance, and musicality.
