Technical : The Audio Research REF-6 is a fully balanced tube preamplifier with many balanced and unbalanced inputs and outputs. Compared to the Audio Research REF 5 SE, much has been changed and improved. A new and heavier power supply, a greatly improved volume control, new custom-made capacitors. The audio circuit uses 3 6H30 dual triodes per channel, and the power supply uses a 6H30 and a 6550WE tube. The enclosure has also been significantly improved. Many parts are now CNC machined, such as the sides and front panel, and internal resonances are now optimally damped. Each input can be configured and the volume control now features 103 discrete steps. There are 4 balanced and 4 unbalanced inputs available and no less than 3 balanced and unbalanced outputs, which can all be used simultaneously. The Audio Research REF-6 is fully balanced from input to output, a blessing to use and truly a pleasure to listen to.
