Technical Details : The Blumenhofer Gran Gioia is a 2-way loudspeaker with a very large wooden treble horn and a bass horn. The bass unit is a 38cm large unit and is reflex assisted via an optimized reflex port on the underside. The treble horn starts from a very low 850Hz, and the driver is a specially developed 1.4" Titanium dome. Both the bass horn and treble horn are made of 25mm Birch plywood. No MDF. The loudspeaker connections are WBT and the expensive Tellurium versions. The treble horn is fully adjustable, both in tilt angle and phase. Furthermore, you can weaken the treble horn by 1 or 2 dB via a jumper. The Blumenhofer Gran Gioia stands on 3 spikes on outriggers, so the entire cabinet can be tilted. It's truly old-school technology but built in a very modern way, and the sonic result is truly fantastic.

Listening : If you think of a horn loudspeaker as having a very direct sound with significant horn coloration and poor soundstaging, you couldn't be more wrong with the Blumenhofer Gran Gioia. The sonic image is only slightly more direct than an excellent dynamic loudspeaker like the Magico S3 MK2, which we compared the Gran Gioia to. In terms of resolution and purity, the Blumenhofer easily keeps up with the S3 mk2, and in terms of dynamics, the Blumenhofer goes even further. The sonic image is very pure and transparent, and the bass reproduction is beautiful, round, and fast. An enormous 3D bubble appears right in front of your nose, and the nice thing is that you don't even need to turn it up loud. Even at whisper-low levels, all details come through 1:1. Remarkable. What is also very nice is that the Gran Gioia has an efficiency of 99dB at 1 watt. Ideal for small amplifiers and tube amplifiers. We drove the Gran Gioia with the excellent Bricasti M15, a transistor amplifier with a velvety character, and the result is stunning. In small rooms, but also certainly in very large rooms, the Gran Gioia performs very well. Listening to music with the Gran Gioia is definitely big fun, playing music is a pleasure again.
