Technology : The Lumin T2 is the first new design following the Lumin A1/T1 models. After the D1 and the S1, the A1/T1 are now also due for a remake. The new T2 Lumin streamer combines a robust CNC panel construction with X1 technology to deliver the best possible performance at this price point.

The chassis was completely redesigned for the T2 compared to its predecessor, the T1. It is made up of solid aluminium CNC panels, which are invisibly connected to each other. The front, like the reference player from Lumin, the X1, is beautifully curved and accommodates the dimmable or switchable display. The connections on the rear are recessed into the chassis, so they are hidden from view. In addition to the electronics, the chassis also houses the internal power supply. Both the electronics and the power supply can work undisturbed, thanks to the excellent shielding of the robust housing.

Lumin is among the select group of manufacturers that develop and manufacture everything in-house. In addition to the hardware, such as the digital data processor, the required processing software and control app are also developed in-house, so that they can be optimally matched to each other.

For the T2, a new processor was developed that offers DSD512 and 384KHz playback. Coupled with a dual ES9028PRO SABRE D/A converter, this creates a high-quality and audiophile signal path. To ensure that the digital data stays perfectly in sync, a high-quality & discrete clock system is used. Precise timing, essential for playback quality, is guaranteed in this way. Of course, the entire design is fully balanced and only high-quality components are used. The analog output buffer circuit has been completely redesigned and offers, in addition to audiograde output capacitors, extremely low noise and high dynamic range.

The whole is powered by a high-quality low-noise dual-stage switched mode power supply. Not only is the internal power supply fitted with a separate metal enclosure, but the power supply itself is also housed in a cage of perforated metal, so that any interfering influences are immediately nipped in the bud.

The T2 also features a precise 32-bit digital volume control, so that the volume can be easily controlled via the Lumin app without compromising sound quality. There is also a USB digital audio output that provides audio data at the highest bit and sample rates to an external DAC with the appropriate input.

Like all other Lumin players, the T2 also offers numerous features that make streaming music an extremely enjoyable activity. The T2 plays all (high-resolution) audio files you can think of (MQA full decoding, Roon Ready, Spotify Connect, MQA, TIDAL, Qobuz, AirPlay and TuneIn Internet Radio). In addition, PCM & DSD resampling provides full control over the bit and sample rates of your music files.

The Lumin app, developed in-house, is suitable for both iOS and Android and leaves nothing to be desired. The setup menu allows the user to configure many properties of the Lumin streamer, but also the operation of the app itself, so that functionality and operation contribute positively to the music experience.

Sound : We connected the Lumin T2 to the Bricasti M20 Preamplifier to listen to how good it sounds. And we must say, the Lumin T2 sounds excellent. Better than its predecessor T1 and even the Lumin A1. The built-in D/A Converter is clearly of very good quality. The dynamics and 3D imaging are spot on. The sound is somewhat warm and very detailed. All in all, the Lumin T2 is an outstanding audio streamer with many possibilities.
