Technical : An audiophile switch is in a way a very peculiar device. It is a device that distributes network traffic, just like any other switch that does that. The data complies with certain protocols, TCP/IP, and data packets are simply passed through, verified, and ready. The music data that comes in from a NAS, or Tidal or Qobuz, does not arrive in your streamer as PCM or DSD data, but as TCP/IP Protocol data packets. It is therefore impossible for a switch to change anything about that. Just connect a printer to an audiophile switch, and we guarantee you that the same printouts will come out of the printer. And yet, when you connect such an audiophile switch to your hi-fi system, you hear it. The sound image changes, and for the better. Not tremendously, but very clearly audible. Since the data itself has not changed, it must have to do with the suppression of interference on the various ethernet lines connected to it. Interference in a network switch can also possibly penetrate the connected equipment, and there, somewhere, cause disruption. Since the Bonn N8 Silent Angel costs only 449 euros, it is an upgrade that is very worthwhile. By default, the Bonn N8 comes with a switched mode PSU. Optionally, and highly recommended, is to purchase the Bonn with the optional audiophile power supply, the Bonn Forester F1.

Listening : Connecting the Bonn N8 is simple. The switch is auto sensing, and you select 1 port as input, and the remaining 7 ports become outputs. Immediately it is clear that something has changed. You recognize your carefully built sound image right away, except now all the qualities become much clearer. Everything is cleaner and quieter. The sense of space also seems to have increased. The sound image is larger. The Bonn N8 comes standard with a quality power supply, but it can be better. With the optional Bonn Forester F1 power supply, the advantages of the Bonn N8 switch become even greater. We advise anyone investing in the Bonn N8 to replace the power supply with the Bonn Forester F1, either immediately or in time. The switch sounds noticeably much better. Even more quietness, and more 3D and a more analog sound. Remarkable, but true. Besides the Bonn N8 and the Bonn Forester F1, we also supply the audiophile switches from Ansuz.
