Technical : The Sonus Faber Gravis II is a compact, sealed subwoofer with an active and a passive woofer. The Gravis 2 is designed as a musical subwoofer, to extend the low frequency range of your speakers downward. For this reason, it was necessary to build a sealed subwoofer with sophisticated control electronics to integrate the subwoofer as optimally as possible with the main speakers. The upper frequency must be adjustable to a relatively low level to ensure the subwoofer rolls off when the main speaker takes over. It is also important that the Gravis 2 can be connected to the speaker output of the amplifier via the included cable, which is connected to the High Current input. Not every amplifier has a line output to connect the subwoofer. In many cases, it even sounds better if you use the speaker outputs to drive the Gravis 2. The character of the amplifier used is then passed on to the subwoofer. The Gravis 2 has its own amplifier and draws only a minimal amount from the amplifier. Your amplifier and speakers will not notice anything, but the blend with the main speakers is often better. The Gravis 2 has a 260 mm long throw woofer and 260 mm passive radiator, and a 350 Watt amplifier built-in. The woofer faces forward and the passive radiator faces downward, making the Sonus Faber Gravis II easy to place. The Gravis II from Sonus Faber is their mid-range subwoofer, and is ideal for compact speakers on the market and small floor-standers, but larger systems and rooms will also benefit from the qualities of this subwoofer.

Listening : Actually, you shouldn't hear a subwoofer. It should do nothing except reproduce the absolute lowest frequencies in the music recording that the main speakers don't play. The Sonus Faber Gravis II does that excellently. The bass extension is substantial, and your speakers seem to have grown larger. The entire image grows in all dimensions. Most importantly, however, the Sonus Faber Gravis II produces no audible artifacts. Through the use of the passive radiator, the character of the Gravis II is somewhat fuller and more musical than that of the compact Gravis 1 from Sonus Faber. We recommend the Sonus Faber Gravis 2 as an ideal subwoofer for, for example, the Sonus Faber Olympica 1, Olympica 2, the Sonetto 1, 2, 3 and 5, but other standmount speakers also benefit from the bass extension.
