Technical : The VPI 299D is a modernized version of the Scott 299D tube amplifier from the 1970s. This VPI 299D is point-to-point hand-soldered. No circuit board to be found. Various tubes can be installed. The EL34 and KT88 tubes can be installed. Adjusting this is child's play via the built-in Bias meter and adjustment points on the outside. The VPI 299D is furthermore switchable (remotely!) from Ultra Linear to Triode. Ultra Linear for more dynamics and power, Triode for a more beautiful and full-bodied sound with many speakers. The VPI 299D can be fully controlled remotely via the included metal remote control. There is also a modest tone control included, which can be ideal for fine-tuning the sound. And last but not least, the VPI 299D is equipped with a good Phono MM input and an excellent headphone output.

Listening : The VPI 299D sounds like a true tube amplifier, with lots of glow, tranquility and inner detail. Many speakers here at Ohm-Audio bv sound excellent and loud enough when we connect this VPI 299D. The more challenging speakers require the Ultra Linear mode, and the more sensitive speakers sound better with the Triode mode. The VPI 299D is truly one of the most complete and best sounding tube amplifiers we know, and…made in The USA. The VPI 299D comes standard with simple EL34 tubes. This VPI 299D is already equipped with new Sophia Electric tubes, which makes it sound even better than it did from the factory. This VPI 299D is only just over a year old, is in like-new condition, has been played very little and is completely intact and ready for many years of musical enjoyment in your home.
