On the front you will find a huge matrix red dot display which can be read well from almost any listening position. You can adjust the brightness of the display yourself, but you can also choose to dim the display completely if you prefer not to see it while listening.

Audio Group Denmark (Aavik Acoustics, Ansuz Acoustics, Børresen Acoustics) has its own perspective on how electronics should be designed and how they should sound. That is why the enclosure of Aavik Acoustics devices is made from a natural composite material instead of aluminum. Furthermore, great attention is paid to eliminating noise. They do this with techniques you also find at Aavik Acoustics' sister brands (Ansuz and Borresen Acoustics). In the Aavik S-280 you will find different types of Tesla Coils. The principle of the Tesla Coils is that a Tesla Coil consists of 2 coils, a coil and a counter coil. When the coil encounters a noise spike, the counter coil creates a counter spike out of phase. This cancels out the initial noise spike, similar to how a noise-cancelling headphone works, but mechanically instead of electronically/via software. The more Tesla Coils, the more effectively the total amount of noise is eliminated. The Aavik S-280 contains 72 Active Tesla Coils, twice as many as in the Aavik S-180. The Active Tesla Coils operate under voltage, making them more effective than the Passive Tesla Coils from Ansuz Acoustics. In addition, there are also 164 Active Square Tesla Coils found in the Aavik S-280. The Active Square Tesla Coils are square coils that are integrated directly on the double-sided circuit board, on the other side of the circuit board are the square counter coils. Together, these two types of Tesla Coils reduce noise in the music signal, which in turn provides quieter, more refined and more detailed music reproduction with a blacker background. Where the Aavik S-280, apart from significantly more Tesla Coils, differs from the S-180 is the unique technique: Analog Dither Circuitry, which originates from radar technology. The Analog Dither Circuitry causes the Tesla Coils to emit pulsating signals with precisely determined frequencies. These signals are sent out of phase. The result of this technique is that the music signal is significantly enhanced and the background noise floor is eliminated.

Below the Aavik S-280 is the entry-level model from Aavik Acoustics, the S-180, and above the Aavik S-180 is the top model, the S-580. With the most expensive model, the Aavik S-580, the interior is made of pure copper instead of aluminum and a titanium cross is integrated into the top plate to reduce vibrations from the enclosure. Each step up you take with the Aavik streamer models provides a more detailed, deeper and more musical soundstage.

Due to the materials and techniques used, the streamers from Aavik Acoustics have a sound that is incomparable to other streamers on the market. Under the Aavik S-280 are Ansuz Darkz Feet, these are special feet which are designed to sit on top of Ansuz Acoustics Darkz isolation feet. Once you place a Darkz under each foot of the Aavik S-280, the Aavik S-280 suffers less from resonances, which makes the sound more natural by giving it more body and rhythm. The sound is also more dynamic and at the same time more controlled and more balanced. For this reason, we always recommend (eventually) placing Ansuz Darkz under Aavik Acoustics equipment for optimal sound quality.

Listening : The Aavik Acoustics S-280 sounds very natural and refined. The special thing about the Aavik streamers is that they sound very analog, as if you are listening to an analog device rather than a streamer. The music is excellently balanced, it is dynamic and rhythmic, but not rushed. It is pleasant and slightly warm, but absolutely not woolly or withdrawn. The bass is firm and deep, but also tight and well-defined. The treble is detailed and transparent but not analytical or technical. The overall picture just works. This makes listening to the Aavik S-280 a very interesting, pleasant and simply enjoyable experience. Everything in the recording is reproduced effortlessly, so you don't need to strain your ears to catch everything. Because of this, technical listening (and thus listening fatigue) is not an issue. Because the Aavik S-280 has more Tesla Coils as well as Analog Dither Circuitry, the Aavik S-280 sounds cleaner, more open and more detailed than the Aavik S-180. In terms of character there is no difference, in terms of sound quality there is, the Aavik S-280 is simply a level higher than the already excellent S-180.
