General : The Borresen 01 is a small standmount speaker from the reference '0' series of Børresen Acoustics. A true full-range high-end listening experience in a modest format with a super sleek and very attractive slender design.

Technology : The Borresen 01 is a very special design. The cabinet features a rigid HDF baffle, and the Borresen 01 has a clean and screwless design. The drivers and crossovers are manufactured by Borresen themselves "in-house". The drivers and tweeter used are absolutely unique. The dipole planar ribbon tweeter is made from a special type of foil and has a moving mass of just 0.01 grams (!) and the drive is powered by fast and extremely powerful Super-Neodymium N52 magnets. The tweeter is housed in its own compartment in the cabinet which is ventilated by two ventilation openings on the side and 1 port on the rear of the speaker. The 4.5" Bass/Midrange unit consists of a 4 millimeter thick 'Nomex Core' cone design with two layers of non-woven carbon fiber produced by Japanese manufacturer 'Toray', a high-tech manufacturer that also makes components for Formula 1 cars and the aerospace industry. Just like the tweeter, the cones are driven by a Super-Neodymium N52 magnet. The combination of both a light moving mass and a powerful N52 Neodymium drive results in extremely fast acceleration and stopping power of the units, creating a fast, open and very uncolored reproduction. The materials used result in extremely low self-inductance which prevents distortion and resonance. The Borresen 01 is an open system, but through the clever application of diffusers at the bass port, the bass port does not emit large sound waves with high energy towards the wall. Instead, the sound waves are broken up and reduced, resulting in reduced energy output from the bass port. This allows you to place the Borresen 01 as close as 40cm from the rear wall without the bass resonating or dominating. The Borresen 01 is equipped with 3 Ansuz Darkz decouplers between the cabinet and the Stands. Below the stands are adjustable decoupling units. You can optionally place additional DARKZ decouplers if needed or desired.

There are 3 versions available of the Borresen 01 :

- The standard Borresen 01.

- The Cryo Edition. This version has the same construction as the standard version. However, in the Cryo version, all metal parts found in the speaker are individually cryogenically treated. The parts are cooled to -196 degrees Celsius, and then slowly brought back to room temperature. This changes the internal molecular structure and removes stress from the materials. The cryo treatment is carried out in-house at Borresen Acoustics itself; it is an expensive process but delivers a significant gain in sound quality.

- The Silver Supreme Edition. This version is the same as the Cryo version, but this version features hand-cast and CNC-machined pure silver induction rings in the drivers. These drastically change the characteristics of the drivers, and very much in a positive way. The inductance is approximately 12 times lower than conventional drivers and distortion is reduced by approximately 40%. The Silver Supreme Edition versions sound, in a positive sense, otherworldly. Listening : The Borresen 01 is a so-called compact speaker. Often such monitor speakers sound extremely refined and highly coherent, but they cannot really play loudly, and the bass doesn't really extend very deep. You can hear that it's a compact speaker. In itself not a problem, as there are many positives to counterbalance it, such as very fine phase purity and authenticity of sound. However, the Borresen 01 sounds unlike any other speaker of this format that we know of. So controlled, so spacious and so refined and free of resonance, at any volume. The Borresen 01 sounds like a floor-standing speaker, something you often hear when a compact speaker can deliver powerful bass, but the Borresen 01 not only goes deep, its bass is also very controlled and you hear virtually no cabinet resonance. This gives less the impression of a compact speaker with powerful bass, and more the experience of a complete and very balanced speaker. The reproduction is very accurate and realistic, but at the same time there is an enormous sense of calm throughout. You are immediately placed in the space where the performers are, whether it's a small studio or a large concert hall or even a stadium. The Borresen 01 captures the atmosphere with great precision. The Borresen 01 monitors can play quite loud, and even at the highest volumes the sound image remains stable and comfortable to listen to. Besides high volumes, you can of course also use the Borresen 01 very well at low volumes. Because of the very small moving mass of the ultra-light tweeter & midrange/woofers, you can also hear every detail clearly and see the spatial imaging even with quiet music at room volume. The Borresen 01 is an absolutely unique speaker, made for the true music lover, for evening after evening of listening to music at the highest level. For deeper bass reproduction and higher musical sound pressure and wider soundstage, we recommend the Borresen 02.
