Tommy Horning is the designer of the Horning Eufrodite. Tommy wants the dynamic qualities and high efficiency of a horn loudspeaker, but without the typical horn coloration and also the radiation behavior of horn loudspeakers. The Horning Eufrodite is one of the most special loudspeakers on the market. First of all, the Eufrodite is very deep, and has a very unusual loudspeaker configuration. The unit responsible for the majority of the sound spectrum is a special and modified Lowther Full Range unit. This paper unit has an enormous and very strong magnet and can reproduce everything from 50Hz to 18KHz. This excellent unit is used without filters. The bass section consists of 8 (!) 20cm woofers per cabinet, in a compound construction. The rear units end in a kind of hybrid horn / transmission line construction. The woofers are not filtered, and thus full range, and acoustically tuned.

The tweeter is equally special. It is a paper cone tweeter. We haven't seen those in a long time. According to Mr. Horning, this special tweeter performs even better than modern tweeters made of diamond, beryllium, titanium or aluminum. Indeed, this Eufrodite sounds very fresh and open without a trace of harshness. The Horning Eufrodite is also a high-efficiency loudspeaker, with a 98dB efficiency. So it can also be driven by compact tube or transistor amplifiers. The whole is a very lively and dynamically correct reproduction that grabs you directly. Live recordings sound like never before. Placed next to the excellent and much more expensive Magico S3, it showed that this Horning Eufrodite sounds just as open as the S3, and even more dynamic. The quality is really very high. The bass is solid and very "authentic". This set of Horning Eufrodite is 10 years old, is in excellent condition, and is now available to audition at Ohm-Audio bv.
