Technology : The Luxman LX-380 is an integrated tube amplifier based on the Luxman 38 series as we knew it from the previous century. The appearance is virtually unchanged, and why should it be, the luxurious aluminum front and wooden cabinet complement each other excellently. A quartet of 6L6GC tubes provides the necessary power, no Class D power unit but certainly sufficient to play loudly as well. The LX-380 features an extensive selection of analog inputs, including a Phono input that can be adjusted for both MM and MC cartridges. Also noteworthy is the LECUA volume control, which stands for Luxman Electric Controlled Ultimate Attenuator. This technology ensures that the music signal can be regulated without loss. The unmistakable switches with their associated functions are not forgotten. The loudness, treble/bass, balance, and even the stereo/mono control are all present. It is refreshing to see these classic functions on a modern high-end amplifier.

Listening : The Luxman LX-380 refers strongly to the 38 series, yet this amplifier certainly does not sound like one from the 1970s. The LX-380 has plenty to offer in terms of detail and resolution. The stereo image is also surprisingly expansive! However, the LX-380 is not a pressure maker; the 6L6GC tubes provide a neutral, harmonious and colorful sound that remains comfortable. With dynamic electronic music, however, the LX-380 handles itself excellently, with plenty of volume, and without making an "exhausted" impression, something not all tube amplifiers can achieve.
