General : The Magico A3 is a floor-standing speaker from the young A-series of the renowned American brand Magico.

Technical : The Magico A3 is a compact 3-way speaker in a price range that is new for Magico. The intention was to have the Magico A3 cost between $10,000 and €13,000, but unfortunately it didn't work out. Building such a high-quality speaker for that price simply proved impossible for Magico. The Magico A3 currently costs € 21.690,00 in the Netherlands (after numerous price increases). The Magico A3 is a beautiful 3-way speaker and reasonably compact as well. The Magico A3 is made entirely of aluminum. The units are Magico's own units. First of all the tweeter. That is a very beautiful Beryllium tweeter, which is also used in the S1 mk1 and S3 mk1. A supertweeter, which works without the diamond coating of the S1 MK2 and S3 MM2. The midrange driver is a 6" Nanotec Graphene unit. The woofers are also Nanotec Graphene units. The Graphene units are among the best that Magico makes and this material is also found in the S1 MK2 and S3 MK2 and the more expensive M series also uses it. The crossover uses only top-quality components from companies such as Mundorf from Germany. The Magico A3 has a sealed enclosure and therefore sounds tight and controlled, but they do require adequate amplification. The Magico A3 is an incredibly beautifully constructed speaker and sonically it is a true Magico.

Listening : The Magico A3 has just started playing in our listening room Studio 2, and it quickly becomes clear that this is a very special speaker. Comparison with the S1 MK2 immediately comes to mind. It is indeed about the same size, but a 2-way, while the A3 is a 3-way speaker. As expected, it quickly becomes clear that both speakers are cut from the same cloth (or rather, aluminum). Both speakers are absolutely top-notch. The Magico A3 indeed sounds like a true high-quality 3-way speaker. The Magico A3 sounds tight, smooth, highly differentiated, and as if carved from a single piece. The soundstage is very open and a large 3D bubble unfolds. The Magico A3 can also play quite loudly. The Magico S1 MK2 is the absolute master when it comes to honesty, and it therefore sounds more ruthlessly tight and open, while the Magico A3 is somewhat easier on the ear and can cope with virtually all types of music where the S1 MK2 is more specialized. The Magico A3 has an extremely deep and powerful bass which, because the cabinet is sealed, is beautifully tight and controlled.

This set of Magico A3 speakers comes from a Dutch reviewer. The metal front panels are optional and can be ordered from Magico through us; they are not included as standard. Because the original packaging is not available, the speakers can be picked up at Ohm-Audio BV in Groningen. We also have the option to deliver and install the speakers at your home; please inquire about the possibilities and/or price.
