Technical : The Marten Design Coltrane 2 is the big brother of the Marten Bird 2 and the Coltrane 1. The Coltrane 2 is clearly much more substantial than the Coltrane 1. All units have been renewed, the cabinet is enlarged, and the filters have also been upgraded. The woofers are now 2 pieces of 280 mm ceramic cones, but configured as a sandwich design. The damping and rigidity are many times greater than the units in the Coltrane 1, and the natural resonance is now very low. The midrange unit is a 173 mm pure ceramic unit, and it is equipped with a neodymium magnet and 2 resonance dampers. The pure diamond tweeter is now a 25mm version. Extremely expensive, and incredibly good. In our opinion, perhaps the best tweeter in the world. The enclosure is made from a solid wood plate, and the entire back is made from a single piece of carbon. Carbon is light and rigid, so the entire Coltrane 2 is not unreasonably heavy, but weighs 60 kg net per unit. The Marten Coltrane 2 is a no-compromise built reference loudspeaker and it sounds like it.

Listening : The first thing that stands out is the enormous quietness that emanates from this Coltrane 2. The music is projected as if from nowhere, and its own character is extremely neutral. Then the bass. Incredibly how pure, precise and well-defined this Coltrane 2 sounds. The bass goes really seriously deep. But actually the bass doesn't stand out at all, it's simply there. And that applies to the entire audible and inaudible spectrum. Actually you're not talking about specific characteristics or a particular sound anymore, these speakers simply give you music as it's meant to be. Now that's also appropriate for a speaker set of € 83.000,00, and the Coltrane 2 certainly deserves an excellent rating. This set of Marten Coltrane 2 is in mint condition, and comes complete with the original crates, carbon spikes and pucks, and they are ready for many years of musical enjoyment in your home.
