Antipodes DS Base
The Antipodes DS Base is the entry-level ripping version of the Antipodes family and therefore has a built-in CD ripper and pre-installed storage for your music. The cast aluminum housing is identical to that of the DS Core, except for the rear. If desired, your Antipodes DS Base can be upgraded to the DS Core for more processing power. The DS Base is a Server, Ripper and Player in 1. Connect the Antipodes DS Base to your DA Converter via USB, and you immediately benefit from one of the best sounding, most powerful and most complete Audio Streaming solutions on the market.
The Antipodes DS Base is equipped with a medium power V3.5L mainboard with sufficient processing power and speed for Roon and other server applications. Roon in its latest version offers many possibilities to adjust the sound. A complete DSP is at your disposal. Also, a very large music collection can require a lot of processing power. If you use all the features in Roon, such as DSP, the upsampler, the Equalizer, everything really, then the DS Base may not be powerful enough. We have not experienced this in practice, and the Antipodes DS Base also sounds best with the DSP engine disabled. If you want more processing power later, you can have the DS Base upgraded to DS Core. More processing power in itself is not a problem, but it must not compromise the extremely pure data stream with bits that contain your music. The latest mainboard in the DS Core is an industrial type developed together with ASUS specifically for Antipodes. This type of mainboard has a 28-month production life span, which has major advantages for the Antipodes DS Core software development. The DS Base has the simpler, but very stable V3.5L mainboard from ASUS, specially made for Antipodes.
The Antipodes DS Base can play music from directly connected external storage sources and from any internal storage present. Internal storage capacity ranges from 1TB (3,000 CDs) to 8TB (24,000 CDs). We recommend the most direct connection to your DA Converter. The best way is to play from internal storage, via USB Audio to your USB DAC, it cannot sound and function better. The best way after that is to connect a NAS via the router.
The Antipodes DS Base has 2 pure audio outputs. USB Audio out to connect the DS Base directly to your USB DAC, and an SPDIF PCM output via RCA. We recommend using the USB output because high-resolution DSD files are then also passed to the DA Converter without any conversion. DSD does not go over SPDIF; in that case it is converted to PCM, 384KHz becomes 192KHz and 64 Bit becomes 32 bit. With USB, the file format remains intact.

All Antipodes units are 100% built to work optimally with Roon but also with various other server protocols. Roon consists of 3 parts, namely Roon Server, Roon Ready and Roon Control. Roon server manages your music library in the most logical and intelligent way you can imagine. Roon server is also the only part that needs to be paid for. The software is not cheap, but absolutely worth every penny. Roon Ready is the player (RAAT Roon Advanced Audio Transport), the solution that plays the music to your system. Roon Control is the remote control to operate the player. Roon Control works with virtually every brand smartphone, iPads, PCs, laptops, MacBooks etc. Once accustomed to Roon, you will not want anything else to manage your music library and play music.
