Jazz

Jazz music dates back to the beginning of the last century. Here you will find a selection of our favorite jazz music. Great music and audiophile recorded. Do you know a jazz album that you think is special and sounds wonderful? If so, please email the details to info@ohm-audio.nl with the note "Music tip".

Bruce Katz : Transformation

This album by Bruce Katz, the renowned pianist from the U.S.A., is one of his best albums. Musically fantastic and sonically top-notch. Smooth, open, relaxed and very dynamic. Tracks such as "Chicago Transformation" and "Circular Notion" demonstrate the power of this blues-oriented band. The track "The Sweeper" is a beautiful dragging rhythmic ballad with a particularly beautiful bass part. Music 10, Sound 10.

E.S.T. : Live In Hamburg

This recording by the Esbjorn Svensson Trio is one of their best albums. There won't be many more due to the tragic diving accident of pianist and founder Esbjorn Svensson. Live in Hamburg is one of their best albums. Both in terms of music and sound. Particularly beautiful is, for example, "The Rube Thing". Fantastically bluesy, enormously dynamic and played fast, beautiful in terms of sound. The drums, which are regularly mixed into the background, are fully involved here. Very creative jazz at a high level. Music 10. Sound 10.

Keith Jarrett : At the Blue Note, Complete Sessions

This 6CD box was originally intended to be a single CD. A compilation was to be made from the 3 evening sessions of Keith Jarrett and his Trio. However, the largely improvised jazz music proved to be of such high quality that they wanted to make a double CD from it. After listening carefully once more, they concluded that simply every note had to be on CD. A 6 CD box it became, and that's just as well. The recording is excellent, as most ECM recordings are, but the music is incomparable. Music 10. Sound 8.

Hadouk Trio : Utopies

This fantastic album is a great celebration. Or actually two, since it's a double CD. CD1 is recorded in the studio and CD2 is live. Both CDs sound beautiful, but CD1 is the best recorded. Just listen to Clef Des Brumes, or Touple Valse. Beautiful sound images. A pleasure to listen to. Sometimes swinging, then again a bit quieter. A recommendation for audiophiles. CD2 may sound a bit less good, but more than compensates for that with the fantastic atmosphere. Music 10. Sound CD1 10, CD2 8.

Ben Webster : At the Renaissance (AA Productions Gold)

This is a CD of a recording from 1959. Ben Webster with some friends at the Renaissance. Recorded live and directly to tape. Very little tinkering has been done. Often you see that the soul of the music is lost by turning too many knobs, but that hasn't happened here. The CD sounds crystal clear, open, dynamic and very live. All background sounds have been left as they were, and that's how it should be with a live recording session. Relaxed and easily accessible jazz music and audiophile beautifully recorded and remastered by Doug Sax of Analogue Productions. Music 9. Sound 10.
