General : The McIntosh MC275 MKVI is the most affordable tube power amplifier from McIntosh. Nevertheless, it is a large, stable and solidly built power amplifier, suitable for many types of systems.

Technical : The first McIntosh MC275 dates back to 1961, and the design has changed little, especially the illuminated tubes and the larger Solid Cinch™ speaker connectors on the side. We are now at the 6th generation of the McIntosh MC275 and it's still going strong! The McIntosh MC152 offers both balanced and unbalanced inputs which can be switched via a selector switch next to the inputs. The McIntosh MC275 can also be used as a mono power amplifier, and with a 2nd MC275 you can benefit from a stable 150 Watts per channel. In stereo mode the McIntosh MC275 has a healthy 75 Watts output per channel at 16, 8 or 4 Ohms. The 2 x 75 Watts is enough to drive many speakers, including Sonus Faber speakers with average efficiency. If you don't play extremely loud, the McIntosh MC275 can even be used with magnetostats such as Magnepan or Analysis Audio. During startup of the McIntosh MC275 the lights under the tubes glow orange to indicate that the tubes are warming up. Once warmed up, the color of the lights changes to green, indicating that the amplifier is operating and ready to play music. Should anything be wrong with one of the tubes, the light under that tube will turn red. In case of overvoltage or short circuit, the McIntosh MC152 has a fuse-free protection built in, called 'Sentry Monitor'. By not using fuses, current flow is virtually unrestricted, which benefits sound quality.

Appearance : You can almost always recognize a McIntosh device from a kilometer away, but especially the McIntosh MC275 has a very distinctive appearance since this amplifier has been in production for more than 50(!) years, and its appearance is virtually identical to the high-end amplifier from 1961. The McIntosh MC275 is very solidly built and can drive many speakers. The dimensions of the MC275 tube power amplifier are 54.6cm (W) x 21.6cm (H) x 30.5cm (D), the MC152 weighs 30.5kg.

Sound: The McIntosh MC275 has the typical McIntosh character, you could even say it features the "classic tube sound". This means the MC275 sounds beautifully full, detailed and spatial. The difference compared to previous versions of the McIntosh MC275 lies mainly in the spaciousness, detail and tangibility/airiness of the soundstage. The McIntosh MC275 will never give too much or too little of anything. The sound is very controlled and balanced, and even at higher volumes with heavier music on speakers with average to high efficiency, the McIntosh MC275 maintains its grip and the sound remains comfortable, so you don't need to rush to turn down the volume. This means you can still enjoy listening to the McIntosh MC275 after hours, days, weeks, months or years. Although the McIntosh MC275 sounds quiet and refined, it doesn't sound dull or too tame; rather it sounds full of emotion and warmth. Thanks to this very refined character, the McIntosh MC275 is suitable for virtually any type of music at virtually any volume on virtually any type of speaker. It's also worth mentioning the excellent service McIntosh offers on its equipment, so you don't need to worry about the future, as parts are well-stocked and can easily be reproduced in the future, and McIntosh never leaves its customers out in the cold, as it should be.
