General : The McIntosh MC275 MKVI is the most affordable tube power amplifier from McIntosh. Nevertheless, it is a large, stable and heavily built power amplifier, suitable for many types of systems.

Technical : The first McIntosh MC275 dates back to 1961, the design has changed little in terms of the lights under the tubes and the larger Solid Cinch™ speaker connections on the side. Meanwhile we are on the 6th generation of the McIntosh MC275 and it's still going strong! The McIntosh MC152 offers both a balanced and an unbalanced input which can be switched via a switch next to the inputs. The McIntosh MC275 can also be used as a mono power amplifier, with a 2nd MC275 you can benefit from a stable 150 Watt per channel. In stereo mode the McIntosh MC275 has a healthy 75 Watt output power per channel at 16, 8 or 4 Ohm. The 2 x 75 Watt is enough to drive many speakers, including Sonus Faber speakers with average efficiency. If you don't play very loudly, the McIntosh MC275 can even be used on magnetostats such as Magnepan or Analysis Audio. When starting up the McIntosh MC275, the lights under the tubes light up orange to indicate that the tubes are warming up. Once warmed up, the color of the lights changes to green, indicating that the amplifier is in operation and ready to play music. If something is wrong with one of the tubes, the light under the tube will turn red. In case of overvoltage or short circuit, the McIntosh MC152 has built-in fuse-free protection called 'Sentry Monitor'. By not using fuses, the current is barely restricted, which benefits sound quality.

Appearance : A McIntosh device can almost always be recognized from a mile away, but especially the McIntosh MC275 has a very distinctive appearance since this amplifier has been in production for more than 50(!) years, and the appearance is almost identical to the high end amplifier from 1961. The McIntosh MC275 is very solidly built and can drive many speakers. The size of the MC275 tube power amplifier is 54.6cm (W) x 21.6cm (H) x 30.5cm (D), the MC152 weighs 30.5kg.

Sound : The McIntosh MC275 has the typical McIntosh character, you could even say that you find the "typical tube sound" in it as well. This means that the MC275 sounds beautifully warm, detailed and spatial. The difference with the previous versions of the McIntosh MC275 is mainly in the spaciousness, detail and tangibility/airiness of the soundstage. The McIntosh MC275 will never give too much or too little of anything. The sound is very controlled and balanced, even at higher volumes with heavier music on speakers with average to high efficiency, the McIntosh MC275 maintains its grip and the sound remains comfortable and you don't have to rush to the volume control to turn the volume down. This means that after hours, days, weeks, months or years you can still enjoy the McIntosh MC275. Although the McIntosh MC275 sounds quiet and refined, it doesn't sound boring or too tame, it sounds rather full of emotion and warmth. Because of this very refined character, the McIntosh MC275 is suitable for virtually any type of music at virtually any volume on virtually any type of speaker. What should also be mentioned is the excellent service that McIntosh offers on its equipment, so you don't have to worry about the future, because spare parts are in abundant supply and can be easily made in the future, and McIntosh doesn't leave its customers in the cold, as it should be.

Ohm-Audio B.V. is an official McIntosh dealer. The McIntosh MC275 can be auditioned by appointment without obligation whilst enjoying a delicious cup of coffee. We also have the solid state amplifiers from McIntosh, the stereo MC152 and the mono power amplifiers MC830 in stock for comparison.
