General: Flagship mono power amplifier from Aavik Acoustics in Denmark. The Aavik M-880 is the latest creation of designer Michael Børresen and industrial designer Flemming Rasmussen. The Aavik M-880 is among the best that can be obtained in the amplifier field.

Technology: The Aavik M-880 is a statement, a statement of what is possible in amplifier design when you go to the extreme and don't let yourself be held back by limitations. The Aavik M-880 are class A amplifiers, but fully modernized and perfected. For the M-880, Aavik Acoustics aimed to retain the sonic qualities of class A while completely rethinking its implementation. The output stage is designed so that at all times 0.63 Volt more is supplied than needed. This way the Aavik M-880 always operates in class A, without unnecessarily consuming large amounts of power and generating heat. Thanks to this class A approach, smaller capacitors can be used, but in large quantities. Instead of a few very large capacitors, a great many small capacitors are used. And with many we really mean many, let's say 250+ per amplifier. Smaller capacitors can deliver their current faster and more effectively than large capacitors. The Aavik M-880 has no less than 8 output transistor pairs, each supplied by a dedicated power reservoir with capacitors. These power reservoirs are placed directly next to the output transistors, which shortens the signal paths so the noise floor is lower and the transistors can draw current from the reserves immediately, without any restraint. Speed and silence are the two terms that play the leading role in the Aavik M-880. The power supplies follow this principle as well. Each amplifier uses 4 Resonant Mode Power Supplies. No large, heavy and slow linear power supply. Instead, fast and dynamic power supplies. Resonant Mode power supplies generate their current in a sine wave rather than a block wave, unlike traditional switching power supplies. This way of generating current produces many times less noise than a standard switching power supply. The less noise, the better. Each of the four power supplies per amplifier is rated at 500 Watt and 20 Ampere, so each Aavik M-880 amplifier has 2,000 Watt of power supply capacity. The Aavik M-880 is therefore designed for every task and is completely free of current-related compression. This is also reflected in the power output of the Aavik M-880. A set of M-880 delivers 2 x 400 Watt into 8 Ohm, 2 x 800 Watt into 4 Ohm and approximately 2 x 1,300 Watt into 2 Ohm. The output power combined with the extremely powerful power supplies provides optimal control and authority without limitations over any high end loudspeaker on the market.

Noise Cancelling : Next we come to silence and noise suppression, which you will find in various forms in virtually all equipment and cabling from Audio Group Denmark. AGD does this through various technologies developed and manufactured in-house. You will find these techniques in the cables and equipment of Ansuz Acoustics, in the electronics of Axxess and Aavik Acoustics, and even in the loudspeakers of Børresen Acoustics. The Aavik M-880 is packed with an enormous amount of the latest and best AGD noise cancelling techniques. For example, each amplifier contains no fewer than 112 Active Gold Tesla Coils, a gold-plated variant of the regular Active Tesla Coil. Beneath this variant sit 112 Active Square Tesla Coils on the circuit board, and there are also 12 Gold Anti Aerial Resonance Coils. All these active Tesla Coils are supported by 8 Analog Dither Circuitry units. Together, this is a very large and therefore highly effective way to lower the noise floor and create a pitch-black background and an enormous amount of natural air and space between the performers in the recording.

Chassis : The chassis of the Aavik M-880 is also something truly special. The design comes from the founder of Gryphon Audio, Flemming Rasmussen. This fact, combined with the pursuit of optimal mechanical stability and resonance control by designer Michael Børresen, results in a stunning design that uses unique materials to achieve the best musical qualities from the chassis of the Aavik M-880, combined with a breathtaking look. Each amplifier weighs no less than 70 kg net. The Aavik M-880 owes this to the enormous solid copper plates that cover the entire interior of the amplifier. The entire internal structure is therefore solid copper, both for its more musical resonance properties and because copper causes less inductance and hysteresis than aluminium. The sides are clad on the outside with carbon fibre, not only for their striking and modern look, but also to reinforce the chassis and make it less resonant. The base plate is a sandwich construction of a thick layer of laminated wood between two thick stainless steel plates. Under the base plate are feet designed to stand on Ansuz Darkz decouplers. A set of Aavik M-880 comes with 8 Ansuz Darkz Z3W, the most expensive and best decouplers from sister brand Ansuz Acoustics, valued at € 27,872 including the supplied Tungsten balls. This is by far the most optimal form of decoupling, resulting in a much more dynamic, lively and natural reproduction. On top of the Aavik M-880 sits a subtly illuminated Aavik Acoustics logo and a display that is dimmable and adjustable, where the Gain can also be set. The Aavik M-880 amplifiers are vertically standing and therefore do not fit in an audio rack, but must be placed on the floor or an amplifier platform. But to be honest, something this stunning is surely something you want to have in sight?

Sound : The Aavik M-880 is by far the most impressive amplifier we have ever had the pleasure of hearing. So much grip, so much control, as if the loudspeakers are playing on their own without an amplifier in between. The sound is simply real, it is natural, live, organic and extremely dynamic without any trace of harshness. Everything happens effortlessly, everything that occurs in the recording comes alive in the room. The bass is tight, superbly defined and extremely musical. You barely recognize your loudspeakers anymore. We heard the Aavik M-880 on the \u20ac 1,000,000 Børresen M8 Gold Signature loudspeakers and it sounded like the Americans say \u2018out of this world\u2019. Of course, the Børresen M8 Gold Signature loudspeakers are already exceptional and very good in their own right, but we could hear that a large part of the ultimate special sound was also thanks to these remarkable M-880 amplifiers. Once again, the Aavik M-880 is a statement, and therefore not for everyone. But if your budget allows, and you are looking for the best of the best, the most musical of the most musical, and the most beautiful of the most beautiful, then do not look any further, the Aavik M-880 is the answer.
