EN.
General : Flagship model mono power amplifier from Aavik Acoustics from Denmark. The Aavik M-880 is the latest creation by designer Michael Børresen and designer Flemming Rasmussen. The Aavik M-880 belongs to the best that amplifier technology has to offer.
Technology : The Aavik M-880 is a statement, a statement of what is possible in the amplifier field when you go to the extreme and don't let yourself be held back by limitations. The Aavik M-880 are class A amplifiers, but completely modernized and perfected. For the M-880, Aavik Acoustics aimed to maintain the sound qualities of class A while completely rethinking its implementation. The output stage is designed to deliver 0.63 volts more than necessary at all times. This way the Aavik M-880 always operates in class A, without consuming unnecessary power and generating heat. Through this method of class A amplification, smaller capacitors can be used, but a large quantity of them. Instead of a few very large capacitors, many small capacitors are used. And by many we mean really many, say 250+ per amplifier. Smaller capacitors can deliver their current faster and more effectively compared to large capacitors. The Aavik M-880 has no less than 8 output transistor pairs, each supplied by a dedicated current reservoir with capacitors. These current reservoirs are placed directly next to the output transistors, which shortens the signal paths, lowering the noise floor and allowing the transistors to draw current from the reserves immediately without any restriction. Speed and Silence, these are the two terms that play the leading role in the Aavik M-880. The power supplies also follow this principle. Per amplifier, 4 Resonant Mode Power Supplies are used. No large, heavy and slow linear power supply. But instead fast and dynamic power supplies. The Resonant Mode power supplies generate, unlike traditional switching power supplies, their current in a sine wave shape instead of a block shape. This method of current generation generates many times less noise than a standard switching power supply. The less noise, the better. Each of the four power supplies per amplifier is specified at 500 Watts and 20 Amperes, so each of the Aavik M-880 amplifiers has 2,000 Watts of power supply capacity. The Aavik M-880 is therefore calculated for every task and is completely free from current-related compression. This is also reflected in the output of the Aavik M-880. A set of M-880 delivers 2 x 400 Watts at 8 Ohms, 2 x 800 Watts at 4 Ohms and approximately 2 x 1,300 Watts at 2 Ohms. The output power combined with the extremely powerful power supplies provides optimal control and authority without limitations over every high-end loudspeaker on the market.
Noise Cancelling : Then we come back to silence, noise reduction in various forms is found in practically all equipment and cabling from Audio Group Denmark. AGD does this through various technologies developed and manufactured in-house. You will find these techniques in the cables and equipment of Ansuz Acoustics, in the electronics of Axxess and Aavik Acoustics, and even in the loudspeakers of Børresen Acoustics. The Aavik M-880 is full of a huge amount of the latest and best AGD noise cancelling techniques. For example, there are as many as 112 Active Gold Tesla Coils per amplifier, this is a gold-plated variant of the regular Active Tesla Coil. Under this variant are 112 Active Square Tesla Coils on the circuit board, and there are also 12 Gold Anti Aerial Resonance Coils present. All these active Tesla Coils are supported by 8 units of Analog Dither Circuitry. All this together is a very large and therefore effective way of reducing the noise floor and creating a pitch-black background and a huge amount of natural air and space between the performers in the recording.
Housing : The housing of the Aavik M-880 is also something very special. The design comes from the founder of Gryphon Audio, Flemming Rasmussen, this fact combined with the pursuit of optimal mechanical stability and resonance control by designer Michael Børresen results in a brilliant design using unique materials to extract the best musical properties from the Aavik M-880 housing, combined with a breathtaking design. Each amplifier weighs no less than 70kg net. The Aavik M-880 has to thank this to the enormous solid copper plates that cover the entire interior of the amplifier. The entire interior is therefore solid copper, because of the more musical resonance properties but also because copper causes less induction and hysteresis compared to aluminum. The sides are dressed on the outside with carbon fiber, not only for the brilliant and modern look, but also to reinforce and dampen resonance of the housing. The base plate is a sandwich construction of a thick wood laminate plate sandwiched between two thick stainless steel plates. Under the base plate are feet designed to stand on Ansuz Darkz decouplers. With a set of Aavik M-880, 8 Ansuz Darkz Z3W are supplied, the most expensive and best decouplers from sister brand Ansuz Acoustics with a value of € 27.872,- including the supplied Tungsten Balls. This is by far the most optimal way of decoupling, resulting in much more dynamic, lively and natural playback. On top of the Aavik M-880 is a subtle illuminated Aavik Acoustics logo and a display that is dimmable and adjustable, and you can also set the Gain here. The Aavik M-880 are vertical amplifiers and should therefore not be placed in an audio rack, but on the floor or amplifier platform. But to be honest, don't you want to have something this brilliant in sight?
Sound : The Aavik M-880 is by far the most impressive amplifier we have heard so far. So much grip, so much control, as if the loudspeakers play by themselves without an amplifier in between. The sound is simply real, it is natural, live, organic and extremely dynamic without any form of harshness. Everything happens naturally, everything that happens in the recording lives in the space. The bass is tight, sublimely defined and extremely musical. You hardly recognize your loudspeakers anymore. We have heard the Aavik M-880 on the € 1.000.000,- costing Børresen M8 Gold Signature loudspeakers and this sounded as the Americans say 'out of this world'. Of course these Børresen M8 Gold Signature loudspeakers are already extremely special and good in themselves, but we could hear that a large part of the ultimate special sound was also largely due to these special M-880 amplifiers. Again, the Aavik M-880 is a statement, and therefore not for everyone. But if the budget is sufficient, and you are looking for the best of the best, the most musical of the most musical, and the most beautiful of the most beautiful. Then definitely don't look further, the Aavik M-880 is the answer.
